Support from management
Management is great at dictating jobs to others, setting up job descriptions and mannuals. However setting an example for those they are managing fall short. Leading by example is extremely important and management generally get leniency all the way around.
When you're hired, you are a part of a family where employees try to help each other out when needed. It's important to work together.
Weekly staff meetings where sometime there is new information shared and learned. A lot of the time is spent on repeating things already covered in the past.
Mosly dominated by female staff.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Several older employees are currently on staff, however the job requires a lot of physical activity, so a lot of times as a person ges older they opt to work in the office or reception.
Raises are not given regularly to employees who stat long term.
Continued education is required in most positions, and encouraged in those positions that the state doesn't require it in. The company provides ample opportunities to receive continued education.
Not a lot of job advancement opportunities once you get past Veterinary assistant or in the reception field as management positions have been filled by the same few people for years.
Overall compensation for your work
Raises are not given on a regular basis, it is more likely to not receive a raise than get one.
Company does provide a retirement plan, paid time off based on length of employment, over time pay, health and dental insurance.
Rarely get off at scheduled time and hours ary greatly from day to day. This makes it difficult to have a life outside of work except for the occasional Saturday off and on Sundays.
Generally hiring, not getting rid of positions. Always feel as if your job is on the line though unless you are one of the few in with management.
Only way to the offices up stairs is via a stairway. Currently no employee handicapped parking g available or even stairs to get from employee parking down to the hospital itself.
Do offer client handicapped parking.
Have at least annual OSHA standards training and officers/employees who maintain and keep track of employees within those standards.
Rarely have accidents due to the amounts of training in every aspect of the hospital. Cat bites, scratches and dog bits rarely happen and are generally due to employee error and discomfort with patient handling.
Inclusive / Diverse
Unless you are in with the management team, your ideas are not usually met with acceptance. Favoritism is definitely noted in a lot of cases.
What I like about the company
Constant training and recommendations for continued education. Allowances to get continued education. A lot of the employees have been there long term.
What I dislike about the company
Not a lot of advancement opportunities once you've been there for a few years. Management positions have been the same few people for years and new ideas are not accepted unless those few people can find a way to make it known those ideas were theirs and take credit. Raises are rarely given. And employees feel as if their jobs are constantly at risk.
