Very laid back, flexible, generous and overall has a good vibe.
Support from management
Managing Partner tries to be supportive, but his narcissism gets in his way much of the time. He does try though usually. However, because he is always "right", he can come off as very condescending and derogatory when he tries to "man-splain" things. But, the team managers and other partners are very supportive and great to work with!
Depends on the day, really. Most people communicate very well within the firm. The managing partner is a bit hard to pin down sometimes (quite often actually)
Partners encourage personal growth and development among employees. Very supportive of continuing education.
Overall compensation for your work
Compensation levels vary significantly among employees. The attorneys and paralegal are probably in the middle to upper of their respective pay ranges for the Bay Area, whereas the admin staff are at the low end of the salary range for their jobs, except for an odd duck here or there.
Office / Work Environment
Very accommodating and generous with office furniture- 42" monitors provided (2-3 per employee), standing desks are available, office chairs replaced as needed. They also keep a very well stocked kitchen with healthy snack foods and junk food, many varieties of drinks, espresso coffee machine, plus gift cards for 3 local coffee houses/bakeries that serve food. Employees given a monthly stipend to the bakery of their choosing and can order whatever they'd like. The partners often take staff of all departments out to lunch and also bring lunch into the firm periodically for small celebrations. They are very generous in this area.
Fantastic benefits, PTO, flexibility and overall encouragement to find your own personal work-life balance during your tenor at the firm.
Very specialized area of law practice. Known as a "boutique firm" that handles difficult Intellectual Property prosecution cases. Known for successfully getting patents that others may not have.
Suggestions for improvement
- Have the Managing partner really take a look at some of his methods and be more open to seeing situations from a different perspective. And he really needs to work on the condescending attitude he exudes at times.
What I like about the company
Fantastic benefits, good compensation, great group of people, location was awesome.
What I dislike about the company
More communication among partners would probably help rein in the Managing partner at times when he needs to be reined in.
