Company Culture

They make an effort to do fun company outings on a quarterly basis as well as other events such as drawings for a massage, fruit in the breakroom, coffee etc.

Support from management

Any support is an illusion. Zero loyalty.

Teamwork

Within my department there was a lot of team work.

Freedom to work independently

You used to be able to work independently and become a success. They have now moved into a culture of micro managing.

Internal Communication

A process that you manage can be changed without you being aware. Changes within the company are not shared with employees. They are not good at communicating.

Gender Equality

Less respect for women.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Several older colleagues. Great attitude from middle management. Less from upper management.

Career Development

They are or were working on it.

Overall compensation for your work

Ok for frontline Intake department however low for number of people I was asked to manage. Front line is 13-15 per hour and managing 41 people and two team leads was only 53,500

Office / Work Environment

Was once a great place to work. Now it is more of a revolving door call center mentality. Although they try to show appreciation for employees they are slowly removing all incentives and upper management has no idea how to deal with people. You can be told you are doing a great job and then asked to resign due to some made up excuse

Environmental Friendliness

Would have been higher a few months ago.

Work-Life Balance

You can get the job done in a 40 hour week, little to know weekends and flexible hours.

Company Image

They won one of the top 10 companies to work for in San Antonio. I believe that if they did the survey now they would not be on the list.

Job Security

If they want you gone they will find a reason. True or not. As stated above they are moving to a revolving door mentality and will have no issue letting someone go.

Handicapped Accessibility

The building is accessible however there are 3 handicapped spaces for the entire building.

Challenging Work

The job itself is not difficult. It is difficult to balance the unrealistic expectations of upper management. It is also difficult to deal with upper management that has never actually managed people.

Suggestions for improvement

  • They need to understand if you want to people to see your company and your services they need to want to work for you. People don't work well with the fear of the ax dropping at anytime. Take the time to really know how long each task takes and what it takes to do it vs. relying on reports that don't show the whole picture of the job.

What I like about the company

I liked the people I worked with and before a few months ago I felt they cared about their employees.

What I dislike about the company

All of the above mentioned things.

Company Culture

Firm has lost 8 out of 15 attorneys in the past 6 months. Two paralegals out of 7 also quit- each paralegal has nearly 300 cases apiece. We went from having cubicles and offices to workspaces without any privacy for employees or clients.

Attitude towards older colleagues

See job security

Career Development

Unheard of.

Overall compensation for your work

For Paralegals it's good pay with excellent benefits. Low pay and average benefits for attorneys.

Office / Work Environment

Paralegals have to work in a 30 inch workspace. Not a desk, not a cubicle- a workspace with people next to you and across from you. Clients can hear conversations other paras have with other clients.

Work-Life Balance

They are pretty good about missing work and vacations.

Job Security

They're trying to restructure the law firm into a corporate business, where profits come first over the client. Judges are starting to notice. Additionally, they have periods (usually around Thanksgiving and January of every year) where they do massive layoffs. The haven't done this in 2015 because there's simply no excess employees- the system is rigged so that even the absolute best paralegal or attorney will be able to actually accomplish their job.

Handicapped Accessibility

Most employees have to park in a very small part of the lot or park on the street, sometimes more than a hundred yards from the office. No covered parking.

Workplace Safety

Located in a light industrial/office area next to the airport.

Challenging Work

Droll, niche area of the law with no transferable skills. The Intake department takes anyone who calls in, so you usually wind up with losing cases.

Inclusive / Diverse

All the women and minority senior managers either quit or were demoted in the past 6 months.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Fire Senior management and bring back actual lawyers to run a law firm.

What I like about the company

Had good benefits including a very generous paid time off policy.

What I dislike about the company

Everything else.
