Company Culture

The company look over safety and professionalism to achieve production numbers

Teamwork

No teamwork. more like gang up on individuals not part of a ground and back stabbing

No communication whatsoever

Career Development

Promised to work on development to move up in pay or management. After two years of trying to get some development plan going. finally giving up and moving on to another company.

Work-Life Balance

They expect you to bend over backwards for the company in times of need but wont even hear you out when you need some time off for your family

Workplace Safety

They have untrained people operating dangerous equipment. Training is lacking, and most people themselves create a danger. Management does not put a stop to this as long as numbers are meet.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Need better management that actually sees what is going on on the floor. Management looks for scape goat when numbers are not good.

What I like about the company

The benefits are ok. Medical is $100 for a family.

What I dislike about the company

Raises. they are just 3% which almost covers the increase in insurance every year. Its almost like you are not getting a raise. Also HEB promises to promote from within but they do not. They promise to allow you to grow in the company, but they do not. They promise that you are an owner in the company but they dont want to hear anything you have to say. This is the manufacturing side of the house, not the stores.

Company Culture

The general impression that people have of HEB being a great place to work is completely erroneous. It is a company for people who want to put in the minimum amount of effort for a paycheck. HEB does not value its employees that go above and beyond on a daily basis.

Support from management

Management does not support or like its employees. Management only exists to enforce rules.

Teamwork

Teamwork is non-existent. HEB has a “top down” “do as I say” 100+ year old approach to management.

Freedom to work independently

If you are an independent individual, please do not think of working for HEB. HEB will stifle your creativity and ultimately choke you till you decide to leave. If you don’t leave on your own accord and still remain fiercely independent while over performing at your job, HEB will find a way to fire you!

Internal Communication

Very poor communication between management and employees. But do exactly what your manager says and you will have a job. If not, they will find things to write you up for and get rid of you.

Gender Equality

HEB is an old school male dominated company. The odds of you being treated well and promoted directly correlate with if you are male or not.

Attitude towards older colleagues

HEB does not take of its employees in general but does not particularly discriminate against older employees.

Career Development

I was not challenged, given no opportunities for advancement and my career was stagnant at HEB.

Overall compensation for your work

HEB cannot compensate its employees enough for the mental toll it takes to work for such a terrible company. No amount of compensation is enough for the work it takes to keep your job at HEB

Office / Work Environment

In my 20 year career, HEB has been the worst company to work for. The work environment is one in which employees are not trusted and managers go above and beyond to micromanage their brightest and best people.

Environmental Friendliness

At HEB, managers are not allowed to be friends with hourly employees. The work environment is one in which there is clear separation of hourly employees and salaried managers. Also, if upper management finds out that hourly employees are friends with their managers, the managers get written up and fired for it.

Work-Life Balance

If you work for HEB, they will suck the life out of you because of which you will not be able to have any work-life balance.

Company Image

I have lost complete respect for HEB and for the company that Charles Butt founded!

Job Security

I had absolutely no job security at HEB. Even though I was one of the star employees, I always feared losing my job because management didn’t want independent minded people around.

Challenging Work

At HEB you can be guaranteed mindless, monotonous work. If you want to be challenged, you will have to reach executive levels and find a position at the San Antonio corporate office.

Inclusive / Diverse

HEB openly discriminates against people who are different and who don’t fit the traditional HEB mold.

Suggestions for improvement

  • HEB needs to listen to their employees and treat them like a valued asset rather than something that can be discarded at the whim of the manager. Challenge and grow your best employees. Diversity is not only about skin color, diversity of thought and socioeconomic status is a version of diversity that you need to treat as diversity. Finally, please don’t use “Because People Matter” as your logo/slogan when you really don’t care about your employees.

What I like about the company

I liked some of the amazing people I had the privilege of getting to know...the people to loved and supported me and who mourned the way HEB treated me.

What I dislike about the company

I abhorred the micromanagement, lack of career advancement and being constantly hunted down and written up by my manager.

Company Culture

Most employees are great they all are there because they need a job. I don't know of anyone that really likes what they do.

Support from management

upper management can act as tyrant and treat you like you are disposable.

Teamwork

Most workers are good about helping each other up front. don't know about other areas in store.

Freedom to work independently

Mostly but training is limited so they make you reliable to front end managers. There are too many things to learn and short training time.

Internal Communication

There is always the push to use the smaller bags and stuff them by managers. most customers hate this.

Office / Work Environment

We have to wear HOT heb shirts and tuck them in while front end managers can wear what they want and don't tuck their shirts in. This is stupid and they shouldn't have this dress code over the others were all in front of customers.

Work-Life Balance

HEB hires mainly part time without benefits don't let them fool. We have I think 4 fulltime people up front while the rest of the 20-30 are part time. Full time is considered a privilege and is not a fair hiring practice so lots of workers are always quitting. Its a revolving door of new people constantly. They make you work up to 10 days without a day off because of their cheating work week. And that is pt. They act like they own your life. After working here for almost a year I now understand why unions were created. HEB wouldn't survive outside of TEXAS the way they treat employees. Walmart had to clean up their act because they are everywhere and had class action law suits filed against them. IN Texas workers rights are nonexistent.

Company has an over rated imagine of Good. If everyone really took the time that I have seen quit to review I don't think it would be so good.

Work is very Hard and required to work at a ridiculous fast pace that is not good for customer service or shrinkage

Inclusive / Diverse

They discriminate if you have a disability to do more than what you were hired for. They let you go. I was hired to be a checker not hall buggies in parking lot with a rope in 108 degree whether so I have been given notice that my job will be ending.

Suggestions for improvement

  • treat people with compassion and humanly. And if your a store manager and you are burnt out leave instead of mistreating people because they need required time off and breaks. Not to mention sleep. Stop scheduling workers to close and open. that equates to overtime in a 24 hour period this happens frequently at HEB close 12midnight and open at 6AM. Do what's right by your hard working employees!!!

Nothing really.

What I dislike about the company

I don't like upper front end management mistreating employees which is a common practice. the worker isn't a human just a number to fill a slot on the schedule.
