- Heidelberg Distributing Company (Independence, OH / United States)24.Nov 2015
the culture is very negative and it brings even the most positive person down. Sales reps do not get commission statements, nor can we question our pay which leads to distrust. Numbers are "fixed' to benefit certain reps. Bonuses are not paid fairly nor in a reasonable time frame
Support from management
The expectations are unrealistic, lack of support, information given is repeatedly inaccurate or unclear. employees are never involved in any decisions that affect us
there is very little teamwork. everyone is out for themselves
Freedom to work independently
employees have no say in anything that affects us. its the company's way or the highway!
while communication is supposed to be one of our companies core value, it may be the worst fault here
Attitude towards older colleagues
we do embrace our elders and make opportunities for them to continue to work way longer than they should
there is a lot of turnover, so advancement opportunities do exist. However, there is no career development provided, and unqualified people end up in management simply because no one else wanted the job.
Overall compensation for your work
this is a controversial area. the company has benefits (ins and 401k) but the commission rates are constantly cut to where no one ever makes more money for working harder. Reps have to fight to get their bonuses, and then never know when they will be paid.
Office / Work Environment
our operating systems and computers are terribly outdated. But the building/offices are clean, bright.
we do food drives, recycle on occasion
there is no such thing as work life balance here. the company calls last minute sales meetings at all different times so working parents have a very hard time arranging for child care. The work load is so insane that we all spend hours at home completing forms and reports that no one ends up reading anyways
some people see the company as an evil empire within the industry. some see that as a good thing, while others don't want to do business with us. Employees do not speak fondly of the company because most of them are angry on a daily basis.
we are reminded daily that we are replaceable, and if we dont like it, there's the door, or that if we don't do as we are told or hit unrealistic goals, we can and will be fired.
the building is fully handicap accessible
safety is important
oh its challenging.
Inclusive / Diverse
the company does not promote diversity. very few women in management. diverse opinions are not supported, individuality is not encouraged. Its like being a stepford wife. do your job and be quiet
Suggestions for improvement
- Issue commission statements, which would eliminate the distrust running rampant in the sales force. Track supplier incentives and pay them. Stop making reps recap and fight for them.
What I like about the company
We have a huge portfolio of products to sell
What I dislike about the company
I don't trust that I am being paid properly. No matter how much i sell, my pay check never seems to change. We do not receive commission statements, and if we question our pay we are told "its correct. end of conversation" by the office manager. I have to fight to get paid on incentives that are clearly due to me, and then wait weeks or months to get paid on them.
