- Henkel Electronic Materials LLC03.Mar 2018
Highly competitive, heavy workload, low compensation, meager employee appreciation, high employee turn over.
Support from management
Management shows good support on projects as long as the customer is being served. Employee support for growth, merit increase and career advancement is not good.
Freedom to work independently
This is something that the company is very good at. They generally allowed engineers and techs to run their tasks and manage their time.
Silo information, felt I was working on my own, poor feedback on performance. Newly hired managers have little understanding on research processes and only push for completion to meet customer expectation. Most managers are not hands on laboratory people.
Trying to hire more women.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I have seen older co-workers let go for "performance" related issues and it always happens when they are under newly hired managers.
Very slow career growth. The only way to get a good pay increase is to move to another department or to another company altogether.
Overall compensation for your work
Very poor merit increase. Pay rate is a confidential issue and is not publicly discussed.
Office / Work Environment
Open office work was intended to increase corroboration, but it also increases distractions as some people are just louder.
the company prides itself as being environmentally friendly
Heavy workload forces long work hours averaging more than 60 hours a week and sometimes coming on the weekends to complete a project.
since company customers are well known there is some pride attached having worked for Henkel
No job security. Felt threatened for being fired or laid off most of the time.
Very serious on 5S and job safety analysis to reduce accidents
Work definitely allows for some degree of creativity as you can plan your own T&E. The problem usually is the tight deadlines.
Inclusive / Diverse
Work force is very diverse
Suggestions for improvement
- Performance review process is very problematic as it pits people against each other. Those that find themselves at the edges of the bell curve are generally in trouble of being removed. This is not conducive to a team atmosphere.
What I like about the company
They do provide good benefits and have some work scheduling flexibility.
What I dislike about the company
Management do not look out for their employees. They are very cold and detached.
