Overall compensation for your work
Teaching hospitals aren't known for high pay

We are attempting to get more equipment in order to reduce workplace injuries when moving patients
Workplace violence has become an issue that all hospitals are struggling to deal with
I work in an ICU
Suggestions for improvement
- I think improving staffing and working on retention/burn out. Nursing is a difficult job and the turnover rate can be very high.
What I like about the company
Hershey Medical Center is a great place to work. There are numerous educational oppertunities and training/conferences that are paid for (up to a certain amount). The work is hard but overall the staff is very big on teamwork and training so you never feel like you are on your own (at least on my unit).
What I dislike about the company
I think all hospitals nation-wide are struggling with violence from patients/families. I think doing more to enforce a zero-tolerance policy of violence, verbal or physical would go a long way. The hospital is starting to do this more and is hiring more security staff but everything takes time.
