Support from management
When rush jobs come in they listen to the paycheck theyre going to get, not a realistic deadline or what we need to do the job right
No communication between office and manufacturing, causes a lot of issues
Attitude towards older colleagues
Sales team is viewed as elite, often bought lunch, given perks, great benefits, recieved reviews months earlier than any other employees, and most seem to bring in very little work. Theyre great guys but it definitely feels like theyre playing favorites
Office / Work Environment
Tools and machinery are outdated, we have great engineering software and amazing computers but its years better than the machines making parts. No air conditioning in the shop floor. Temperature has been over 110 degrees. Safety is number 1 priority until a rush job comes in, then no rules apply
40-44 hour weeks are nice, usually overtime availible if you want it, but rush jobs tend to come in at bad times and leave you working until the job is done, sometimes on major holidays and really late nights
Safety is important until it interferes with a job. Then there are no safety rules. We have safety meetings every month but most of the time the safety regulations are broken because the timeline is more important
Suggestions for improvement
- Seriously considering peoples work history when deciding whos oppinion to choose. The guy who did flooring for 20 years should not hold precedence over a machinist of 15 years who wants to make a part a certain way simply because the guy is your buddy. Organize office better. Too many outdated drawings reach the floor or no one confirms new drawings with customers and we have to re make parts that we thought was correct. The shop workers generally do good work.
What I like about the company
Very laid back, a lot of young, smart, friendly people. I very much enjoy the atmosphere. Occasionally we have catered lunches, company wide motorcycle rides for anyone to join, and other events are common. The work can challenge you but it is not too hard.
What I dislike about the company
Too laid back. A lot of people blatantly disreguard the rules and there are no reprocussions. There is no quality control. There is aweful communication between the office and production floor. There is no climate control which makes it unbearable during the summer. There are too many managers, most managers only see 2-3 employees. Too lenient with quality control. Favoritism in the office. Mostly just politics.
