Freedom to work independently
I was disappointed, based on other work-from-home roles I've had, I expected to have more control over my schedule, but they have constant video meetings, sometimes as early as 7:30 in the morning! It's really challenging to find time to actually do your job in between all the meetings. There were some days when I had literally a 1.5 hour window without any meetings, yet I was expected, judged and measured by the expectation of putting in a full 8 hours worth of work.
Most managers and leaders I met were women. My boss, her boss, her boss, the VP, all women. Definitely no gender disadvantage
Attitude towards older colleagues
I encountered many on the sales side of the organization who were quite a bit older, and they were treated with respect at all times. This is one of the company's best attributes.
Overall compensation for your work
It's a joke. The base pay is barely anything, and the "commission" during the first 3 months was 175 a week.
Office / Work Environment
Everyone I encountered was professional and respectful. There was some busy work that felt demeaning.
A lot of businesses I walked in to, as soon as I said Hibu they shut down and would not talk to me because of bad experiences with the company in the past. Seems they over promise and under deliver
On days when the weather was very dangerous and everyone else I knew had a snow day and the state had declared an emergency, Hibu still expected sales reps to be out driving around. In meetings the managers would actually talk about preparations like bringing extra blankets, food, water, with you in the car. As if selling someone some f'ing digital advertising is so important that you should risk your life. You're not a heart surgeon. You don't need to go out in dangerous weather. Also they expect you to work when you're sick. It's like a badge of honor, people showing up for work and talking about how sick they are but they still made it in!! because they're such a trooper
Inclusive / Diverse
Hardly at all
Suggestions for improvement
- Hire professionals who don't need hand-holding and let them be free to work, rather than nitpicking on metrics that emphasize quantity over quality
What I like about the company
They really strive to provide an environment of support. It's a great job for someone young with little experience who wants to get into the corporate scene and learn a lot
