What I like

nothing

What I dislike

Very stressful working environment, incompetent managers, lack of recognition and zero job security. Employees health insurance costs/benefits are no better than their consumers

Suggestions for improvement

Stop micro-managing staff. Hire managers who understand the jobs are doing and care about their staff. In other words hire leaders who motivate their staff to excel

Company Culture

A lot of cut-throat managers. The good ones are either terminated or seek jobs outside of the company

Company Image

They profess themselves to have a positive powerful image but that is debatable. They don’t care about the average consumer resulting in a high percentage of claims being denied

Work-Life Balance

Zero

Career Development

None. HR is a joke

Handicapped Accessibility

Neutral

Overall compensation for your work

Decent pay but lack of jobs for advancement

Inclusive / Diverse

Who knows. They say they favor a diverse population and adhere to inclusion but this is far from the truth

Environmental Friendliness

None. Managers are snobs

Workplace Safety

Managers don’t respect staff that have medical problems. Becomes a safety issue

Teamwork

Be wary of certain staff. They will report you in a heartbeat to make themselves look good

Attitude towards older colleagues

Managers are disrespectful to employees of a certain age

Support from management

Absolutely none

Office / Work Environment

Terrible

Challenging Work

Redundant and robotic in nature

Job Security

Absolutely zero. Threat of staff being terminated or jobs being eliminated was a daily concern

Internal Communication

Very poor. Conflicting guidelines that change frequently

Gender Equality

Female managers favor male employees and often outwardly flirt with them

Freedom to work independently

You are micro-managed in every aspect of your job responsibilities

Engle is the worst manager I've ever had. Biggest liar and is only about himself.

Good areas and bad areas. Some are really tough to work with. The good areas can get more work piled on

EmployeeWorked at Highmark in Pittsburgh, PA at the time of review.

What I like

I started off working here and I got sick. And over the next 18 months, this company has worked with me with my personal life. Dr appointments, surgeries, etc., and had been extremely flexible and understanding. Bring just a new hire when I got sick, I could've been let go. I wasn't and I wouldn't trade working for this company for anything. I really appreciate all they've done for me and my family, what they stand for, and everything.

What I dislike

Sometimes it seems like it's a competition for who's the best dressed. There's a lot of ppl who don't speak, for whatever reason, in passing. Can be kinda stuffy acting. I ignore it and continue on. Possibly can get a lil relaxed on the dress code. A lot of people are setting in a cubicle all day and being in business attire can wear on you and your financial situation if you're constantly trying to fit in attire wise...

Suggestions for improvement

Better interaction between departments. There is a disconnect for some. Relax the dress code for front line, foot soldier individuals. Longer hours on the fitness center.

Company Culture

I think it could be better.

Company Image

They try to be as accommodating to everyone as possible while still focusing on being a company that works hard

Work-Life Balance

A lot of departments have work from home opportunities, and they are pretty flexible

Career Development

Ppl are always advancing

Handicapped Accessibility

Automated doors, ramps, late cubicles for wheelchair accessibility

Overall compensation for your work

I feel this is true

Environmental Friendliness

Reminders are everywhere

Teamwork

Some people do things to spite you it seems sometimes

Attitude towards older colleagues

I'm 45 & or new manager is over 55

Office / Work Environment

Ventilation could be better. I cough a lot while I'm the office

Challenging Work

Very nice balance of research and input

Job Security

There's a need for my position, I don't forget it being eliminated or downsized

Internal Communication

Communication via email and in person is consistent

Gender Equality

A lot of women are in management and leadership positions

Freedom to work independently

N/a

What I like

Additional training if requestedSupport from senior staff

What I dislike

Sometimes hires outside instead of within

Suggestions for improvement

Get rid of the idea that some workers don’t need their own cubicle. Don’t think several employees working at an open table situation is a good idea

Work-Life Balance

Flex hoors

Environmental Friendliness

Recycling bin in all of the kitchens

Teamwork

Our company focuses on collaboration

Support from management

Encouraged to seek help if needed

Internal Communication

Sometimes news is shared the day an event happens

EmployeeWorked at Highmark in Camp Hill, PA at the time of review.

What I like

I started in 1988 and was given opportunities to move up to additional positions with complete training. The pay is fair with health benefits time off and holidays off. If you work a holiday they allow you to use at another time.

What I dislike

They did take some holidays away.

Suggestions for improvement

More options for insurance beside company insurance as some areas we dont get the best coverage

It's mostly positive
