Company Culture

This is something that is being worked on, HVI knows the old ways were not the best ways, this is an ongoing structure repair.

Support from management

The support has became better thru the years at HVI, it can only get stronger! Using the chat apps with the operator and now using technical groups has strengthened operators, MEs, machines and etc.

Teamwork

Team work is always improving, the team is only as good as the leaders!! Building a good structure with in makes good teamwork!

Freedom to work independently

There's several trainings going on at HVI, this allows operators to run their machines at will, they have control to an extent of their machines and lets them work more independently on a daily basis.

Internal Communication

We use different chat apps to communicate to help support all teams such as maintenance, PD, ME, Forging CEO, OP etc. The support teams are coming together from every way to improve outcomes!

Attitude towards older colleagues

There's no issues when dealing with older people at HVI, everyone gets treated the same, team work is pushed in all fazes.

Career Development

To get into certain departments, schooling is offered to help make the operator/employee a more performing person. There's a program at HVI that will pay for a employee's college as long as it has something to do what is being done at HVI.

Overall compensation for your work

For the most part, employees are paid very well for their work.

Office / Work Environment

Everyone seems to get along pretty well, office personnel wants what the floor personnel wants, safety, production and a great business!

Environmental Friendliness

We are learning more and more about the environmental aspects at HVI, it has improved and needs to keep improving.

Work-Life Balance

A good leader knows how to bring a good work-life balance to his or hers employees. The employees get 2 weeks vacation 1st week then every 5 years another week. You can earn up to 6 weeks vacation.

Company Image

I think the company image thru the years has always had issues but with all the new items that's came into place to support the employees and the new CEO communicating on operator levels will help change the image.

Job Security

Job security is never guaranteed! I know there's quite a few people who work at HVI that has over 20 years of job security and it will continue as long as HVI has good quality workers working for them.

Handicapped Accessibility

There are several handicapped parking areas around the two buildings, the third spot was added in 2018. Everything in production is pretty much ground level, there is a elevator up to the offices if need be.

Workplace Safety

Work place safety has grown to a high, HVI takes safety seriously. Operators can join in a suggestion program to where they can make money for good accepted ideas to help make their safety and any other topic a better place to work.

Challenging Work

The work has different levels. There are level 1 machines up to very complicated machines that's make it a challenging day and sometimes everyday.

Suggestions for improvement

  • suggestions for improvement would be to keep pushing team work on all levels. Create good leaders with in to create good employees. Do things to boost morale and to keep employees happy, make sure the upper-management make the time to work with the production floor team more closer.

What I like about the company

I do like the company, I've worked there for about going on 21 years, I know what its like working from the floor up, HVI keeps bringing me back day after day. The pay is great! The benefits are good but changing, I like the fact to see operators make it up to lead and supervisor levels, advancement and not always going outside of the plant. I like the vacation packages, my time working here the company has put on a huge carnival for all their workers while shutting down the plant and paying for the employee's time, HVI caters in food quite often, usually for Thanksgiving, a huge meal is brought in and employees are given time to mingle and eat for a few hours, turkeys have been passed out of Thanksgiving, hams and gift cards have been passed in the past for Christmas. Several good things the company does that I haven't seen else where in my years of working. If you're an asset to the HVI they will send you to Germany for more training and understanding how the plant is to operate.

What I dislike about the company

When bringing in new hires, we need to raise the starting pay to get good quality workers. Id like to see more of the culture change take place, I know things take time and some things are on going but we need to push this harder to bring the morale to its high.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Hirschvogel has never really been successful in the U.S., having only a few of its 30 years of operation in the black, and it never will be successful as long as it is being managed the way it is out of Germany. For whatever reason, the particular group of Germans that make up the deciding portion of the leadership of Hirschvogel are especially arrogant and condescending. Instead of striving to build a strong infrastructure of team work and collaboration, they tend to dictate and blindly deflect blame away from themselves.

What I like about the company

As a result, the root causes of issues are rarely determined and consequently the appropriate measures to correct the issues are never made. Because of this, the company is in a constant state of firefighting. It is always trying to fix the same issues by first blaming and demeaning the local plant personnel, followed by sending their team of “experts” for a few weeks to change everything around, most often causing a whole new set of issues, and then to return home patting each other on the back for being such great lords of the universe. Like clockwork, either the same issues surface again because they never fixed them, or new ones arise because of their disjoined patch job repairs. Also like clockwork, they start the whole cycle of blaming and demeaning first all over again. In some parts of the world talent may endure this but not so much in America, where the very foundation of the culture rests on an abhorrence of such tyranny.

What I dislike about the company

So talent leaves, and quite rapidly. Their turn over is incredibly high and it is certainly on the rise. One would think that this, couple with the fact that they have never really made any money, paired with the reality that most Germany companies in the U.S. do incredibly well, would communicate to the top management that maybe they are doing something horribly wrong and they obviously have no clue how to correct it. Unfortunately their egos are unable to bare this level of accountability so they resort to what is least painful, just blame the plant or the country’s culture, or anything else but the truth. Hence, this is why unlike so many thousands of other manufacturing companies who flourish in the U.S., Hirschvogel will not. It is such a shame too because there are so many talented individuals at the plant working their fingers to the bone to try to fix what they can never repair…horrific leadership!

Suggestions for improvement

  • Monitor managers interactions with his workers. Provide more realistic goals as far as production numbers. Utilize employees talents rather than automatically assign them to a task based on ethics and first appearance.

What I like about the company

Good meals on holidays, pays for part of your steel toe boots each year, provides the most expensive hearing protection on the market. You never feel like you didn’t earn your pay. Always all the hours you could possibly want.

What I dislike about the company

Popularity is more important than work ethic and dedication. Poor lighting and poor air quality is gendering production. Trying to make employees feel like a person and not just a number would really help morale.

Company Culture

The culture is very political, back stabbing, un-trust worthy.

Teamwork

not enough resources. every department is over capacity. "every man for him self" is the team work attitude

Career Development

this company offers poor training, any advancement is based on how well you can kiss up. does not provide you with the proper tools to succeed.

Overall compensation for your work

very over worked. its worse if you are salary

Office / Work Environment

Very political, if you want to succeed you have to kiss up quite a bit. and know how to be political

Environmental Friendliness

oil spills, no effort to improce air quality on the floor, when you out to the floor it is hazy. at the end of the day you will pick out black gunk out of your nose.

Work-Life Balance

over worked. every department is over worked. floor workers have worked continues for the past several months.

Job Security

Job security is based on your political skills and kiss up skills

Challenging Work

trying to maintain a work life balance and navigating the political mine field is very challenging.

Inclusive / Diverse

As part of the full time salary, i was 1 of 4 person of color. if you are a person of color i do not recommend working here!!

Suggestions for improvement

  • the leadership needs to improve drastically to change the company culture if this company is going to succeed long term.

What I like about the company

at this point none due to the awful work environment

What I dislike about the company

work environment, excessive work load, politics, picking favors, potentially raciest?
