Company Culture

Very poor communication between office and care staff. Poor pay, no benefits. Vacation time is not paid as it is presented.

Support from management

I don't usually need support, but know that I can request it if needed.

Teamwork

The nature of this work is autonomous. We rarely see co-workers.

Freedom to work independently

This job requires us to go to clients' homes and work independently. It requires a good deal of trust on the part of the employer.

Internal Communication

Communication is one of the weakest characteristics of this company.

Gender Equality

Most of the employees are women.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Many of the employees are in this age group. We are generally more sought after by elderly clients and therefore valued.

Career Development

There is no growth. Our previous professional training has no bearing on advancement or salary. For example, we employ former RNs and completely inexperienced young people equally.

Overall compensation for your work

Pay is low, no benefits, a great deal of driving without mileage compensation.

Office / Work Environment

Does not really apply. Work is done at clients' homes.

Environmental Friendliness

Does not apply, because we do not work in the office. I am unaware of their concern.

Work-Life Balance

The company will call at all hours to ask us to work outside of our schedules. The feeling of being on unpaid call is very disruptive to our personal lives.

Company Image

I am proud of the service we provide and my personal contribution.

Handicapped Accessibility

Work is conducted at clients' homes.

Workplace Safety

Training is provided, but is minimal and not really effective.

Challenging Work

The challenges vary depending on the type of care required by the individual.

Inclusive / Diverse

Our suggestions are sometimes considered.

Suggestions for improvement

  • More appropriate pay. Recruiting of more experienced, responsible employees.

What I like about the company

Working with my elderly clients is very rewarding. I have met some fascinating people and love hearing the stories of their lives. I love knowing that I am helping them to remain at home as long as possible and maintain a better quality of life. While I don't really feel appreciated by the office staff, my "people" always show love and gratitude for my presence.

What I dislike about the company

I would like to see benefits offered. I also believe that pay should be more commensurate with the employee's education and experience. Vacation policy needs a drastic overhaul.

Company Culture

Employees are simply a plug for a time slot for a client. Employees are only valueable for that use.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Would use employees and "guilt" them to accept clients.

Overall compensation for your work

Employees are not compensated according to state laws when traveling between clients/jobs. This was brought to their attention and the company/franchise owners chose mot to follow that state rule.

Challenging Work

Employees worked in the clients residence and had to adapt to pets, cleanliness of residence, and tasks to be performed. Transferring of obese clients had to be done with no assistance. Employees were not protected from biohazards (blood) ,with mo training on how a blood, feces,or urine incident should occur.

Inclusive / Diverse

Employer only listened or valued an employees views if they agreed with them. Employees would be dealt with harshly if they developed a friendly relationship with a client and were prohibited from maintaining a friendship outside of work hours.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Allow employees to interact with clients outside of their "assigned shift". Employees build a connection with those they care for. I feel this could only benefit not only the client, but also the company. Provide employees a sick plan where they earn a percentage for hours worked. This would protect clients, who may be immunity compromised from an employee who cannot afford to take a day off, and is pressured to report to assigned client even if they are sick. Clients are valuable to the company but those clients also hold value to the caretaker.

What I like about the company

The only positive experiences with the company were interactions with the assigned clients. Since we were assigned to the clients residence we could build positive relationships with those clients assigned to us.

What I dislike about the company

The employee training, pay, compensation for travel between clients/jobs. The way employees are "quilted"into accepting care of clients that live 50 or more miles from, their previous client with no cents per mile,or time to travel pay.
