Again, abusive management. Also would receive one order from GM and one from DM and would get in trouble with both for not following conflicting instructions and neither would go to bat for employees against the other manager.
Support from management
Upper management dismisses any problems brought to them by staff and lower management. GM constantly yells and berates employees. DM also rude and abrasive.
The staff works well together, but upper management does not. Even when it is busy, management will not help in kitchen. Often seen drinking coffee and ignoring staff.
Freedom to work independently
Kitchen Manager was constantly told that staff needed to do things, but was not given any power to get staff to comply, then was berated for not getting things done. Cooks, servers and bussers constantly micro-managed by upper management, but were never given constructive criticism on how to make management happy and then yelled at for not knowing what to do.
constant yelling and berating
no better or worse than anywhere else, I suppose
No chance at advancement unless you're a pet, sometimes not even then. Constantly going outside of company, even with perfectly capable long term employees available.
Overall compensation for your work
Very low pay and almost no benefits. No sick leave, meager vacation, no medical/dental/disability etc
Office / Work Environment
Always hot, especially in kitchen (more so than any other restaurant I have worked at) with no fans or being allowed to step out for air.
They don't care so long as everything is cheap and they don't have to do extra work to ensure it. Throws away perfectly good food that could assist the needy.
Vacations must be scheduled months in advance and then there is still no guarantee of getting it when scheduled, especially if upper management or one of their pets wants to go on vacation last minute.
The majority of employees both current and those no longer employed are universally unhappy. Their pie is great though.
No one's job is safe if they decide theydo not like you or if you rock the boat in any way. They will find sneaky ways to get rid of long term employees if they feel the employee is making too much money or speaks too loudly against unfair practices and management.
Things are constantly falling apart and not fixed until last minute or once someone gets hurt again. Minimal training, only time things are properly cleaned and repaired is if word of inspection comes down.
Inclusive / Diverse
No, complete rat race, also racial discrimination
Suggestions for improvement
- Take better care of your employees and address behavior of management. Also, if you refuse to pay for benefits, at least pay your employees enough to get by without them.
What I like about the company
really good pie
What I dislike about the company
Everything else, especially pay and treatment of employees
