What employees say

Employees like

The company picnic was a particularly positive experience to give back to the employees
They have had events that made me feel welcome and let me have the resources to get set up.
Thankful to have a job that I can have a comfortable retirement
I really enjoyed working at Huhtamaki America because I felt like I was part of a team. The pay is fair. 401 match. Every other weekend off.
It is a very horizontal laid back culture where management encourages independence and offers a good work life balance

Employees don't like

Older workers were not looked at as a asset and were passed over for advancement. The hiring process left little room to talk about your education. Just because someone is older doesn't mean they haven't kept up with technology. People were stereotyped to much and they missed opportunities that were offered to the "younger" employees without the benefit of somebody even looking at their resume. Great place for people just starting out.
I don't feel like the business does well at identifying points of profit and exercising it.
I think HR is sometimes unable to appropriately handle things due to conflicting policies
I feel like women are not devalued so much as overlooked in a traditionally male working environment. Also the CEO is laid back and seems friendly there is not much direcg communication from him
One supervisor here is an arrogant, disrespectful individual with no class. Stay off of day shift and its a great place to work

Suggestions for improvement

Give across the board raises instead of percentage. Give annual longevity bonus Add another week vacation for employees after 30 years of service. Give sick days and personal days that roll over
The culture is definitely younger males are held in high regard. I believe they could benefit by going through their records of current employees to fill positions in house. They shouldn't hire outside until they offer in house first. When a few people left then came back their seniority was intact and that left a lot of others shaking their heads as they thought they had moved up. Not good.
Management could do better on peer to peer relations, actually listen and act not just talk
Greater focus on tangible metrics and improvement of profit centers
I would put a higher emphasis on ergonomics

Dont hold your breath. In one ear out the other
Huhtamaki is a great company to work for. I've been employed there for over 13 yrs. and hope to retire from there.
Management has no sense in direction, nor the best interests with their employee

Career Development

Career Development rating

Career Development is rated with an average of 3.4 points (based on 2 reviews).

Unless you have a degree, dont get your hopes up
They promise career advancements but will never promotors from within. This is mainly due to "you're too valuable" where you are mentality and they do not shy away from telling you this
