You are trusted by top management only after 1.5 years of employment. President and CEO is disrespectful and insulting to employees and will direct them to change designs for dubious reasons backed with no facts and numbers (since there are no captured design requirements). This can happen at any point in the design process with no schedule relief.
Support from management
No. Design requirements are not captured before designs begin. Any decision an employee makes is subject to change without notice at any time by top management.
Moreover yes except for the micromanaging and distrust by the top management.
Freedom to work independently
Absolutely not. Anything anyone does is subject to change by top management for seemingly arbitrary reasons at any time with no commensurate schedule relief.
Top management who hold all the authority replied to my emails not even once while I worked there.
Noticed no gender inequality but I was not privy to salary information.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Perhaps people will rise to management positions but they will not be empowered to manage by top management who decide everything and undermines the decisions of the rank and file at any time without notice.
Overall compensation for your work
Salary was adequate but benefits were very weak (health, dental, vision only).
Although I was promised 1.5X for overtime in my offer letter, I worked six OT hours with one top manager's approval only for his approval to be later overruled by another top manager AFTER I worked the OT. I received an additional six hours' straight pay the following pay period.
Office / Work Environment
Computers and software were in short supply. There weren't enough CAD seats for those needing them. Requests for software such as MS Visio were denied by top management.
Sufficient recycling plan was in place.
I don't know about this so am giving an average rating.
You can be hired one week but be laid off a month later due to "poor business conditions". There was no severance pay nor pay for unused vacation.
Did not have an AED on hand. I was never advised of fire extinguisher locations, evacuation routes nor post-evacuation assembly points.
Products were batteries and battery monitoring systems. That's it. The electronic packaging was a little complicated sometimes due to harsh space constraints.
Inclusive / Diverse
I think the many Indian H1B Visa holders probably worked for much less than a civilian or green card holder would in the same jobs. So I doubt they were there to create diversity or because of their superior qualifications.
Suggestions for improvement
- Remove owners from day-to-day design control, empower the employees to make decisions, require a list of written requirements for each design (even if they have to be completely written by HDS), train all engineers and designers in industry standard drawing methods and/or hire people with sufficient knowledge and skills to make it happen.

See my comments in each category. Also top management was not interested in improving their processes to become more efficient and better documented. This is a "chop shop" prototype operation.
