Company Culture

Pretty chaotic. There were major changes to upper level management. Major players were downgraded and other unknown outsiders brought in and put into leadership roles. Lots of instability and uncertainty.

Support from management

My direct manager was very supportive but I was not supported at all by his managers.

Teamwork

Every developer worked on different technologies so there was not much opportunity for teamwork.

Freedom to work independently

Perhaps this was a problem. I was free to work on whatever I felt was necessary but not given much direction.

Internal Communication

Very poor communication about what the current feature development plan was. Each day there would be a new change in course due to a new perceived problem.

Gender Equality

No problems detected here.

Attitude towards older colleagues

A senior-citizen who had been with the company from its start and had built the company's main technology was laid off. His contributions were critical to the success of the product.

Career Development

There did not appear to be any career growth potential.

Office / Work Environment

Office furniture had seen its better days. Uncomfortable. The office was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.

Work-Life Balance

Most people worked an 8-hour day, 5-days per week.

Job Security

After seeing a major contributor laid off for no apparent reason, I feared for my job security.

Challenging Work

Some assignments were challenging and I was proud of the work that I did, while other work was pretty boring.

Inclusive / Diverse

No problems detected here. There were multiple different races present and all got along well together.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stop bouncing around from one fire to the next on a near daily basis. Set a clear goal and see it through to completion before changing task priorities. Communicate the plan to the developers.

What I like about the company

The technology was impressive.

What I dislike about the company

There was no clear business plan. Each day had a different critical fire to put out. Different teams were not communicating when working on the same issues (unknown to the other teams).

Suggestions for improvement

  • Listen to your subordinate employees. Rewarding & recognition for hard work is highly recommended. AND NO BULLYING OR HARASSING TO ANY STAFF MEMBER.
  • When a plan and a structure exists within a company, then improvement is much more accessible because a with an approachable plan with a strategy and structure allows for flaws to be seen in the system.

What I like about the company

Not much at all. In fact, I am considering accepting another job for less pay but provides and promotes growth with opportunities to develop a career.

What I dislike about the company

Very ineffective communication. Lacks structure for training. Constant conflict of interest among employees. Micromanagement practices that feel like harassment. Seriously under-staffed. Unfair treatment to most temp employees in the customer service department.
