There is very little trust between supervisors or employees unless there is a strong friendship between specific employees and supervisors.
Support from management
During the regular shift there are at least 4 supervisors working and they can all give you orders that conflict with the other supervisors. One of the previous supervisors I had would make fun of my religion even after I asked him not to. Supervisors will try to embarrass you in front of other coworkers or other supervisors and little to nothing is done about employee harassment. Most of which is swept under the rug because upper management does not want to do proper paper work and bring attention upon the department.
If you can find another employee that you can get along with and works as hard as you do its great. Most employees how ever tend to be more lazy and are extremely pron to large amounts of gossip.
Freedom to work independently
Work area are mostly rotated between days. One day you can be in one area the next you may be somewhere else and each area has a specific way they clean and manage facilities so it can get extremely confusing to someone who is not used to adapting to please each specific supervisor.
There are regular meeting that are held before the shift starts.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There were not that many people under 30 that worked there.
There are no opportunities for advancement other than applying for another job in another department.
Overall compensation for your work
The salary was not justified by the job but the benefits like insurance was great.
Office / Work Environment
Working conditions are fair at best. Shoes and uniforms are distributed through the company but replacements can sometimes take upwards to 9 months to be completed.
Employers care little to nothing about social matters between employees just about the work.
Work hours are constant and overtime is not mandatory.
Most employees did not have anything nice to say about the company or the management only about having to work their because they need work.
There was always talk about downsizing or layoffs or firings but most of that never happened. Only a looming threat of it over your head.
There were many accidents and OSHA standards that were not in regulation like clean safety showers or non eyewash in stations. Most if not all of these concerns were never addressed or fixed.
There is no recognition for cleaning facilities but there are always criticisms.
Inclusive / Diverse
Suggestions for improvement
- Listen and implement more ideas from the employees that actually do the work. Hire supervisors that have experience cleaning and are not afraid to show employees how things should be done so that they can accomplish those same standards.
