Support from management

No, they don't give you the needed tools. They just want you to figure out how to make the numbers.

Managers compare employees against eachother creating strife so there is very little teamwork.

Was allowed to work remotely

Nothing gets communicated until something becomes urgent requiring you to stop everything to fix the problem.

I think for the most part woman are treated fairly equally.

Attitude towards older colleagues

IBM gets rid of you once you become a 'senior'

Capped Commission is not competitive for an Inside Sales Rep.

I was able to work remotely as an Inside Sales Professional. This allowed me a lot of flexibility and we still had the tools to keep in touch with everyone on the team as needed. There was a strong base salary but they capped our commissions so we could

What I dislike about the company

Some Managers are Micro Managers and blame their own employees when things go wrong instead of protecting them. They throw you under the bus to CYA themselves.

Company Culture

The company culture is the worst of the 3 different places I've worked. The individuals at the local IBM office were mostly great. But they were constrained by the IBM culture/rules/disregard for employees.

Support from management

The company culture is the worst of the 3 different places I've worked. The individuals at the local IBM office were mostly great. But they were constrained by the IBM culture/rules/disregard for employees.

Attitude towards older colleagues

The most experienced and knowledgeable employees (so higher salaries) are let go and replaced with contract workers with zero experience or the work is moved to another country.

Challenging Work

I used to like the challenge of my job. Then we went through the multiple rounds of layoffs IBM seems to do annually. Our clients didn't go anywhere, they didn't have less work for us, we just had less people (especially fewer experienced and well-trained people) to do the job.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Layoffs shouldn't be a way of life for a company. Treat employees like they matter, like they are valuable resources, like they are human beings. Make changes and retain your experienced employees and let them properly train new employees. Clients (in the trenches, not upper mgmt), get tired of having new, inexperienced IBM employees to work on issues with. They want people they know and trust, at least in my experience.

What I like about the company

When they took over the company I originally worked for, they kept our pay the same, IBM didn't cut salaries. They kept our local managers in place, which made work bearable for us. My paycheck was always deposited on time.

What I dislike about the company

I disapprove of how the corporation lacks appreciation for the majority of their employees. They are such a big company, employees outside headquarters don't seem to be people to IBM. They cut people, local charitable donations (from the corporation....employees still donated), they didn't even attempt to become part of the community. They got away from the core values that got them where they are.
