Company Culture

"Colleagues" are an expendable commodity. It is really who you know, not what you know that gets you ahead. Very political.
Quality and customer satisfaction is low on the company's priorities.

Support from management

Upper management talks a good game, but the up and comers will use you up and spit you out to improve their appearance for higher ups. There are no leaders at the top, only ladder climbers with their eye on the next rung.

Teamwork

Collaboration is the watchword, but watch out, people will stab you in the back, take credit for thing you do, and work to undermine you. Do not be naïve, a little distrust is a good thing to have.

Freedom to work independently

Very much so, that it is chaotic. No leadership amounts to a lot of loose cannons resulting in a lot of wasted effort and lost time, resulting is schedules needlessly slipping. Delays are endless.

Internal Communication

Too many sycophants who will not tell it like it is. If you speak up, they kill the messenger.

Attitude towards older colleagues

You will be victimized for your own longevity and success. Make too much money, they get rid of you, accrue too much vacation, ditto. So do not overstay at the company too long. Get yours and get out. As you near retirement, better work on your resume. You are a goner.

Career Development

Three years running career development scored low on the employee survey. Nothing is being done because it costs money, and HR seems to be clueless(are they every anything else?)

Overall compensation for your work

Good, but again, you become a victim of your own success. If you get up there in pay, you will be gone as a way to improve the bottom line.

Environmental Friendliness

Do not do anything over and above your job description, it has no value. The company tries to "Tom Sawyer" employees in volunteer work and sustainability activities, but it means nothing. The same people do it, but the majority of the staff could care less.

Work-Life Balance

Very much so. People seemed to make their own hours, which raised questions about whether they were actually there 8 hours a day or not.

Company Image

They try but no one seems to know who the company is, because they just sell data and analysis. You see them on CNN as talking heads, but very few people I know have ever heard of them.

Job Security

Poor, especially if you have been there a while. You are a disposable commodity, no matter who useful you try to make yourself. You have to look out for #1.

Workplace Safety

Safety? Safety training? No body knows what that means. Even fire drills area joke. Too worried about litigation over accidents during the drills to worry about actually doing something to improve safety.

Inclusive / Diverse

In my division there was one black, a lot of Indians, one Muslim (a woman, so they got two birds with one stone there), a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese. Women to men ration as about even, although if you had dimples, laughed a lot, and looked good in a sweater or skirt, that did a lot for your career advancement if you spend a lot of time talking to your boss.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Make upper management accountable, from Directors on up, they should be held responsible for their failures. It seems that no one from that level up, knows what telling the truth actually means.

What I like about the company

Challenging work, motivated employees.

What I dislike about the company

Upper management is lousy, worried only about themselves and advancing their own career at everyone else's expense.
