Former EmployeeWorked at IKEA in Columbus, OH.

What I like

Management pay is good if you can put up with mistreating people all the time and are one of the people who would rather hide than do a job

What I dislike

Mismanagement of time and people

Suggestions for improvement

I believe that they should manage a business not manage an idea. Obviously, IKEA works in Sweden with The Swedish mentality but that mentality does not work here in the States

Company Culture

This company tries to be too good but in turn it only hurts them. Employees feel appreciated by the company culture but not by the culture within this company.

Company Image

Treatment to customers is not good. If they are returning their products they would rather them wait in line for hours so that they would not return. It is more important to make the sale than make the customer happy.

Work-Life Balance

They will hire you with a promise of one schedule but then schedule you something just the opposite of what you were wanting.

Career Development

They talk about company policies but there is really no training for them. The development is all on the individual and their desire to make things better. If you make a suggestion to help with a situation, it is usually shot down with it's not the company's policy and that is not how we do it. The problem is is they don't do it at all.

Handicapped Accessibility

Lots of wide open spaces everywhere

Overall compensation for your work

Management is overpaid and employees are underpaid

Environmental Friendliness

Yeah, they have recycling bins

Workplace Safety

Everyone wears a reflected vest for safety but the only training for safety is a short video.

Teamwork

Only teamwork in the crisis.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Everyone is pretty much treated the same. Or ignored the same

Support from management

And occasional glimpse of management making a walk around the store is about all you will see. Except for the food areas where they are always working.

Office / Work Environment

Clean and a little over the top

Challenging Work

Way too many leaders

Job Security

They do not even discuss 2hen you do not show up for work. You could do 2hatever you want and the management is so bad that you could feel secure.

Internal Communication

We only communication is at a short morning meeting and that is only for the few that are there. Once the meeting is over, nothing gets shared outside.

Freedom to work independently

No one will be there to help after first week. Management will be hiding in conference rooms or at their desk.

Inclusive / Diverse

Gender Equality

It was a great place to work, but its lost its way. It's no longer the fun Swedish company it was and is like Walmart

Former EmployeeWorked at IKEA Sunrise FL in Sunrise, FL.

What I like

First being hired was amazing! Tons of friendly people and it felt like becoming part of a huge family.

What I dislike

Management doesn't pay attention to the people in the trenches every day and rarely seeks input from the people doing the jobs.

Suggestions for improvement

Coworkers need to be able to seek freely with managers and actually know their opinions are being heard. Too often they are ignored or can face punishment for speaking up and that creates an untrustworthy toxic situation.

Company Culture

Things were positive at one point but the company has lost its way and needs to return to its Swedish roots

Company Image

No opinion

Work-Life Balance

Plenty of PTO and fairly flexible scheduling

Career Development

There aren't enough opportunities for those deserving.

Handicapped Accessibility

Handicap access was available but definitely not convientent.

Managers only complicated issues and assigned blame and never assisted fixing things.

Technology could be better, but otherwise was fine.

Challenging Work

Work was fairly easy.

Job Security

Company restructured and all jobs were changed.

Internal Communication

Coworkers are regularly kept in the dark.

Gender Equality

Your leaders check in with you a few times every single fiscal year to make sure you're developing on pace with how you want to grow.

What I dislike

Sometimes you wish there was a little more communication from the top down.

Suggestions for improvement

Honestly the workplace culture is amazing. There are different forms including a diversity and inclusion forum.

What I like

Mostly fun, positive management.

What I dislike

Weekend shifts mandatory and you are super overworked on weekends. Older employees are looked over for promotions.

Former EmployeeWorked at IKEA in West Chester, OH.

What I like

Nice people to work with. Management listens and steps in to help. Security is high and is always there to help out.

What I dislike

The splits between departments. Should all work together as one. Upper office people think they should not have to come down to help when they should be on the floor anyway. Especially when we are short handed to begin with. Some people getting promoted to management when they were lazy as a reg. Employee only because there mother worked in the same building for 10 or more years.

Suggestions for improvement

Work as one team together. Do not have so many changes in policy. Stick to one policy for everyone when dealing with customers. Change the employees menu up some instead of the same boring food.
