Indiana University Health experience report

If you have a passion for a certain speciality in nursing, this is the place to start. The pay just isn’t very great

Company Culture

My unit works together fabulously! When an emergency happens we really pull together and keep our patients safe

Support from management

None

Teamwork

The company does a good job of giving resources to help people interact with each other

Freedom to work independently

This hospital expects people to acknowledge if they feel they can’t do somethings

Internal Communication

Communication from hospital managers is slow but they are trying to improve with weekly email updates

Gender Equality

No complaints

Attitude towards older colleagues

Just as many 60+ workers as 20+ workers

Career Development

I can perform cpr on a newborn, assist in women related surgeries, I can be a charge nurse. So many opportunities

Overall compensation for your work

IU Health employers are known for under paying in comparison to the hospitals around them.

Office / Work Environment

The environment has everything I could possibly need

Environmental Friendliness

We have recycling available. I question whether or not it’s truly recycled...

Work-Life Balance

Because I work on a specialized unit, we have to take call shifts for our own unit so we work a lot and think about work a lot

Company Image

I love what I do

Handicapped Accessibility

No thoughts

Workplace Safety

Hospitals are short on nurses everywhere. And then you add that this is a speciality- sometimes we’re understaffed and that’s not safe

Challenging Work

We are a speciality unit that cares for pregnant moms and newborn babies in the hospital. That means we have special training to care for 2 different stages of life with our patients. It requires a personality that can be flexible and willing to learn quickly

Inclusive / Diverse

No complaints

Suggestions for improvement

  • More equal pay! The biggest thing I would change is pay

What I like about the company

I’ve made friends here from other units and continued to stay friends even after they have gone to do other things in different hospitals. I had to be on leave for an emergent family reason and my unit manager was understanding of the situation and held my job for me, even when FMLA denied my request. That’s someone worth working for- someone who understand life emergencies are real

What I dislike about the company

The low pay that workers receive is insane compared to competitors nearby. Easily a $4/hour difference and I think it’s a big part of why the company is short staffed
