Intermountain Healthcare experience report

Overall this is a great company to work for. The benefits are great and there is so much growth and variety available.

Company Culture

Employees are typically educated and hardworking people from a similar educational background. Biggest issue would be upper management not being informed or qualified for their positions

Support from management

I work nights and my manager is often unavailable when problems arise during my shifts.

Teamwork

Most co workers get along and work well together

Freedom to work independently

Employees are often there without management available

Internal Communication

I feel upper management could be more transparent and open with communication. Often when employees contact them with an issue they find a way to not take responsibility

Gender Equality

It is a very good equal opportunity employer.

Attitude towards older colleagues

We have several employees in this age bracket and many are in leadership roles.

Career Development

This is a great company to grow with. There are so many opportunities to move up and the benefits are great.

Overall compensation for your work

It is hard work, I feel the compensation could be higher for the work required.

Office / Work Environment

The temperature is terrible. Certain areas such as patient rooms are overheated while other places are freezing. We also have a consistent insect problem.

Environmental Friendliness

We have several recycling bins available in the facility

Work-Life Balance

We recently added on call shift which increased the stress but overall pretty good

Company Image

I love my job and the work I do.

Handicapped Accessibility

Yes we meet these requirements

Workplace Safety

Intermountain tried to provide adequate training but when working with unstable patients there is no way to guarantee safety.

Challenging Work

I work on the inpatient psychiatric unit. It can be very challenging emotionally and even physically at time. You just have to make sure you take time for self care

Inclusive / Diverse

This company values diversity however certain administrators are more receptive to feedback and ideas than others

Suggestions for improvement

  • I think communication between staff and upper administration could be improved. I also feel like a lot of managements lacks the education necessary for running a mental health unit for children. Our unit had different needs than some of the other hospitals and I believe a mental health professionals should have a say in the administrative decisions being made.

What I like about the company

I love the hand on experience I have gained while working for this company. I get to spend my day working with kids and adolescents. I often feel like I make a difference in their lives and help them learn skills to better cope with the stress in their lives. This job also gives me the ability to continue my education while working full time and also receive tuition reimbursement. There are also so many locations and positions available. The benefits (specifically retirement and health insurance) are amazing. Overall a great company to work for.

What I dislike about the company

My biggest issues would the company would be managements ability to recognize and solve problems. I often notice management making changes without discussing them with the staff they would impact. Some of these changes come from a place that lacks education and can even be harmful to our patients.
