The firm's culture is interesting. Most members are relatively conservative and are older. The firm employees often take lunches together and enjoy each others company. Occasionally things border on the inappropriate side but the banter is frequent and usually respectful generally speaking.
Support from management
Management is supportive or not depending on who your management is. The firm doesn't have a clear lines of management and protection of employees because there is not a strict hierarchy.
The teams work efficiently with each other and are able to accomplish the required tasks for the quarter or in relation to day to day tasks. Team members are adaptive to changing conditions and there are only a few that do not work as efficiently due to issues with communication.
Freedom to work independently
Once you get the hang of your responsibilities and you become competent, you are left to manage yourself as long as you are reliable and are able to accomplish your assigned tasks.
There are holes because not all individual excel at communication and are reliable with their communication lines.
There has been blanant disrespect for the female employees. This issue hasn't fully been resolved but they are making progress towards a more respectful, professional, and healthy work environment.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The firm takes care of it's senior employees and ensures that they are treated well and are provided with the resources they need to be successful.
Career development seems to be non-existent because the firm doesn't offer opportunities beyond the bare minimum for professional development and the firm also does not make it obvious to employees that opportunities are available to those who wish to transition to a different role or be promoted into a higher position.
Overall compensation for your work
Compensation does not scale with increased workload or the adoption of responsibilities outside ones job description at the time of initial hiring.
Office / Work Environment
Occasionally the environment can become toxic. The firm at times breaks into what seems to be cliquish groups. Not everyone in the firm upholds standards of professionalism.
Once you leave work unless you are critical personel, you are not called upon. The only exception is when there is a major event that requires all personal to be present to overcome it as a firm. Occasionally because of the time of the year things can become busy enough for you to have to stay late in order to keep up with the work load. Occasionally individuals who are essential personnel are required to be on call and be able to remote in to their stations to continue work.
The firm has a good company image but there are issues with employees being roudy in the open office. The effects this has on the firms image is not measurable but could be damaging.
Advancement and job security is not necessarily guaranteed for lower level employees of the firm causing a lack of loyalty to the firm as there seems to be a lack of outward reassurance that the firm has the intention of keeping or getting rid of you. This is the case because there is a lack of management/employee future-oriented conversations in relation to your place within the firm.
Accessible easily to handicapped individuals, employees, or clients.
Work place safety is excellent.
The work is progressively challenging and offers opportunities to grow. The level of the work as far as challenging you depends on your ability to adapt and learn as you progress in your role.
Inclusive / Diverse
The firm does not feel as inclusive as one would like to see. There is diversity at the firm but the groups of diverse peoples stick together in their groups and there is no overlap.
Suggestions for improvement
- Establish a mentorship program for employees entering the workplace. Offer employees more employees opportunities to obtain certifications and education that will further the toolkit of the employee. This would facilitate further professional development in the future. Work more closely with employees to ensure that they are able to achieve their goals while at the firm and offer opportunities for advancement if the individual shows an affinity for a different role within the firm.
What I like about the company
I like the opportunities offered by the firm to expand your responsibilities as you become more competent and experienced.
What I dislike about the company
No guaranteed room for advancement. There seems to be an opportunity for expansion of responsibilities which is great but with the new responsibilities there increases in pay is not guaranteed. Lack of investment in employees that seek further education or certifications professional development.
