Company culture

There were budget constraints that offer challenges to teachers and administrators. Funding has been consistently cut at the federal and state levels. The culture of the company is therefore a bit sad and lots of the community members have left. Friends, coworkers and community members vacate their mission to teach after decades of service. It's kind of sad for everyone.

Support from Management

Management has offered what they can to teachers and employees. They communicate goals effectively and do what they can support the college mission on a constrained budget.

Suggestions for improvement

  • There are no simple solutions. Look at lowest baseline projection models instead of peaks in economic volatility or highest enrollment numbers. Focus on what is growing (training for jobs), and pull back in areas that are not. Invest capital like Berea college does. Migrate or merge into other states beyond Kentucky that has more funding money and can sustain higher tuition. Join with corporations that want people trained especially for their industry and ask them to pay for partial tuition, corporate training, in exchange for logos, advertising, and specialized corporate training. Avoid long-term debts. Lower fixed and utility costs. Stop expanding into costly rental/leased properties. Put in better windows and doors, and insulate buildings. Use smart monitoring to turn off lights and air handling units when no one is using a room. Use solar lights outside. Even out technology costs. Don't use brand-name computers. Use BYO (build your own) computers and expand, improve them with regular improvements (so that improvement costs are consistent and controllable).

I like about the employer
