The excessive level of micro-management was indicative of the mistrust component of the corporate culture. Information was shared on a "need to know" basis, as knowledge is power.
Support from management
Staff is told "We own you" and continually reminded that it was "not a democracy".
A feeling of animosity and a "we vs they" environment was encouraged and perpetuated. I was reprimanded for being "too much of a team player".
Freedom to work independently
The fact that there were no job descriptions allows management the discretion to force you to complete tasks outside of your area of responsibility.
The rules continually changed according to the situation. Instability was the name of the game here.
Women are not given the same opportunities as men, and openly insulted/harassed if they are blonde.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Long-term, knowledgeable employees are not valued or preserved.
Opportunities for professional advancement are exclusive.
Overall compensation for your work
Compensation and benefits are adequate.
Office / Work Environment
Staff working areas are continually moved indiscriminately which makes for a very disruptive, chaotic and continually distracting work environment.
Employees are required to participate in community outreach efforts because of the company ownership's involvement in politics and the church.
PTO, although earned, is regarded as a "gift" and resented if used. It required excessive lead time to schedule and there was no compensation or flex time for additional hours worked.
Employees may speak fondly out of fear of retaliation.
There is little job security due to the perception of the staff member's likeability and perceived loyalty.
There are no disabled staff members or accommodations .
Safety is adequate with the exception of a very narrow one-way staircase.
My expertise in my field afforded me my worth.
