Suggestions for improvement

  • I think there needs to be increased staff members in several departments to make busy days run more smoothly. Also the check in process should be improved in cases where the room is not yet ready. In addition, they should get an automated email system to send out guests receipts rather than having to manually click on each room account and send each out that way. That can sometimes mean opening up 1000 files depending on the day which is very time consuming.

What I like about the company

At the front desk, we have a great team that is always willing to work together to get things done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Everyone is friendly and helpful towards one another, including the supervising managers.

What I dislike about the company

I think wages should be reevaluated and that adjustments should be made to compensate for increased inflation/cost of living because right now, they are very low

Company Culture

The company has a great concept regarding what they think the culture is - A happy, respectful community with an emphasis on teamwork. It is not the case.

Support from management

Clear communication is lacking and goals are not set. Employees give input, but it is ignored.

Teamwork

Everyone strips beds, flips event spaces, and busses tables regardless of their position and workload. When help is needed elsewhere, it is difficult to come by.

Freedom to work independently

Sometimes a little too independently. Tasks are delegated whether or not the individual is qualified to take them on.

Internal Communication

We were always made aware of important company information. Department information was not always properly distributed.

Gender Equality

Everyone got the job they interviewed for as long as they were professionally qualified.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Some of the older employees were the most loved employees.

Career Development

Advancement goals were discussed, but then openings weren't shared. Only people in management positions were given opportunities to develop. Classes were required.

Overall compensation for your work

Only 3 PTO days in first year. One day added per year. Medical benes affordable for one person, but not for a family. No paid maternity leave. Though money was competitive in the area, financial compensation wouldn't be enough to live on at full-time status. Compensation isn't enough for the responsibilities placed on the shoulders of the employees.

Office / Work Environment

People were hired with no plan for proper work space. People bounced from office to office not knowing where they would end up next. Others were forced to work in insufficient spaces. The company knew they'd be expanding, but made no plans to accommodate the needs of the employees, which cultivated hostility.
Lighting was sufficient. Temperature control was handled remotely, so we had to call a different department to resolve issues on the office.
Computers were state-of-the-art, but applications were antiquated or not user-friendly making it difficult to meet the demands of clientele.

Environmental Friendliness

The company not only recycles plastic, paper, and glass, but they also recycle soap.

Work-Life Balance

Depending on the position, there is no work-life balance. There was never enough time to get things done, but OT was forbidden.

Company Image

I was proud to be hired to work there. After things seen and heard, I chose to leave. It was not the company I was lead to believe it was.

Job Security

Nobody is safe there. The employer takes "at will" seriously. Employees were fired without warning or reason.

Workplace Safety

For the most part, compliance is observed. Not once was there a fire drill or instruction as to what emergency evacuation procedures were. There were times too many people were crammed into event spaces to accommodate clients wants rather than taking care of their safety in the event of a fire.

Challenging Work

No comment. It was a challenge.

Inclusive / Diverse

The family creates ideas and those ideas are carried out.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Address conflict immediately and put an end to it. Be clear about expectations. Support the team. Accept responsibility.

What I like about the company

Most of the employees were great to work with. We were a family.

What I dislike about the company

When serious conflicts arise, they are not dealt with properly in certain departments.

Support from management

Management beneath the GM does not communicate clearly. Cooperation is poor.

Career Development

Training was minimal. When positions opened, employees had no idea unless they visited HR on a regular basis. Opportunities for advancement are discussed, but hand-selected employees are usually chosen before anyone has a chance to interview.

Overall compensation for your work

The pay is good for a very young person, but not something a person can live off of if they have to support a family. The health benefits were relatively inexpensive for a single employee, but covering my family would have wiped out my entire paycheck. Employees only get 3 days PTO (includes vacation and sick time) in first year. Then one day is added per year. 401k is offered after 1 year of service. Company matches, but if you leave before 5 years of service any money the company contributed is taken back. The company uses the point system when an employee calls in sick instead of managing employees that call out often. Legitimate illness is penalized.

Office / Work Environment

Too many separate systems used to do one job. The systems were counter productive. Could not pull information from one place and tasks were time consuming.

Work-Life Balance

Pressure to work on holidays was an issue. Families are not taken into consideration in this field.

I was for a while.

Job Security

Jobs are stable for the most part, but it was not uncommon for management to make unwarranted threats to fire employees.

Challenging Work

The work was challenging. No single day was the same as any other. It was rewarding at times.

What I like about the company

Employee recognition is provided on a regular basis.

What I dislike about the company

There were not enough employees working in different departments and there were many times that everyone had to abandon their jobs to take care of other departments.
