Sadara SSC Management Review

4.39

Company Culture

Company culture as intended is good and healthy. However, getting 100% buy in from all participants in difficult and sometimes failure to get buy in hurts the culture.

Support from management

While at Sadara, I was under several KBR managers and Dow Chemical managers. All were excellent when it came to supporting the Training Team of which I was manager/consultant.

Teamwork

As with all international jobs that I have worked on, here was competition for support from other departments and this management team was able to make all the right decisions. The individual team members who were in competition did not always support those decisions and the management team dealt well with those issues under the international situations.

Freedom to work independently

Excellent support for me to be in charge. Directions given as needed and support as requested.

Internal Communication

Most often I was listened to and my input was seriously considered. All managements levels were accessible to me when needed.

Gender Equality

It was apparent that not all rules applied to all employees. This is common in the industry and will always be a challenge

Overall compensation for your work

The only drawback to the benefits package was the travel by coach instead of business class. This was not bad enough to prevent me from taking the position or staying on the job, but it is a serious negative considering the number of trips. Also, the lack of travel support on site was a new thing that was problematic in learning the quirks.

Office / Work Environment

The work conditions had room for improvement. This was not the fault of the management team with which I worked but rather at higher levels in the planning stage. It that the knowledgeable end users were not considered or consulted during the planning stage.

Environmental Friendliness

The management team were very aware of the social organization of the area that we were working in and made every effort to protect the social environment of all of the workers.

Work-Life Balance

Efforts were made to assist in a balanced life while in country through social get togethers and activities. Also, we were encouraged to take the rotations home regularly.

Company Image

I do not believe that the image of KBR was as good as it could be. We have several disappointments in personnel assignments and that will always be the case.

Job Security

I felt totally secure in my position. Mostly, because of the support of the entire management team - those in KBR as well as the other companies represented.

Handicapped Accessibility

Excellent. Though the weather and environment conditions made it difficult for people with mobility challenges, accommodations were made as needed.

Workplace Safety

In my particular area safety and safety compliance was the highest value. However, due to the location of Sadara, getting the equipment and material was a challenge. Also, though encouraged and taught, safety was not always implemented downline.

Challenging Work

The work was a challenge but not an overload or unobtainable. The management team was very supportive to help meet all challenges when requested and often when anticipated the offer was made without request.

Inclusive / Diverse

I was made to feel a necessary and valued part of the team. My characteristics were appreciated and accommodated for.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better transfer of information for the processes, especially those that are new/unique to the project. This may take some serious evaluation of people who have been on the projects who can recognize the challenges.

What I like about the company

I had the liberty to hire people in all positions in the organization that I was in and to plan and provide for their training and advancement.

What I dislike about the company

I was not informed of all of the procedures and processes for managing the organization and its team members.
