They are a very old fashioned company. They are nearly 100 years old and it kind of shows. That may not be for everyone. It is very challenging to make change happen because as an insurance company they are very concerned with stability over efficiency.
Support from management
Management is not very accepting of change, but they do work hard to make things right.
People are very willing to work together to get things done.
Freedom to work independently
They have some outdated processes that are kind of set in stone. They update are often as they feel comfortable doing it, but I always thought this was a bit slow.
I always felt very free to share any comments or criticisms with management about anything I took issue with.
Overall compensation for your work
Not the best salary for the work, but they are competitive.
There is a high premium set on 24/7/365 availability. Management is pretty good about it, but you will need to work overtime on occasion to meet deadlines or to fix a production issue.
As I said, very stable company.
I am not handicapped so I am just guessing on this one.
They are an insurance company. Nuff said.
Rating should maybe be a bit higher but they really do have a lot of dated systems that need to be deprecated.
Suggestions for improvement
- Management is very supporting and concerned with keeping it a good place to be employed. But they really need to update their software development process. They cling a bit too tenaciously to an old waterfall-esqu system.
What I like about the company
Very good people at all levels.
What I dislike about the company
The old fashioned management style can be a bit stodgy, to the point of being patronizing.
