- Kerwin Communications (W. Caldwell, NJ / United States)24.Nov 2015
the culture was very toxic in all departments, the culture was if you where new (as in lease then 10 years employed) you where free game to be dumped on, you would care an unrealistic work load while others did not. The owner often shouted profanities at the employees, this was completely excitable behavior.
Support from management
supervisors rarely had an understanding of the scope of work need to support the project, often took a "just get it done" approach without out any advise or guidance.
team work was not promoted by management, it was often sabotaged.
Freedom to work independently
absolutely not, on any of these points
Nothing was ever shared if it was positive, credit for hard work was not acknowledged
again, this was a very politically incorrect work place, it was joked about, but meant, that If you where not young and pretty the owner would not hire you.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Again, the on going joke was that you had to be young and pretty to work there. If you where not, the owner did not speak to you (a blessing)
there was no additional training to advance, in fact there was NO potential for advancement at Kerwin.
Overall compensation for your work
Salary was lower then it should have been, raises where not on a regular bases or on a employee review system. The Medical was not great, and there was NO 401K plan or alike offered.
Office / Work Environment
the office itself is very dirty and run down. The carpets are stained, the desks are falling apart and the compute system outdated. The air duct had dirt hanging from them the bathrooms where out in the main building lobby, not in the office suit, they where by the front door that did not close not close and they where not heated.
this was by far the most politically incorrect place I have ever worked. No women should ever be placed in this kind of an atmosphere.
there is a work life balance for half of the year which is not considered to be "in season" the other half is out of control. It is advised that you never mention that you have a sick child, as that is not looked at favorably.
No one talks fondly of the company and yes, they are not wrong.
The company has been declining for years, I do not expect that it will last for more then a few years.
it was a ground level suite, but the doors may be too narrow for handicapaccessibility
Not sure about OSHA standards are being meet.
the work was not challenging, the volume of work was.
Inclusive / Diverse
Suggestions for improvement
- I don't think anything can be done to fix the problems at Kerwin.
What I like about the company
The only thing I liked was that it was a close commute.
What I dislike about the company
I did not like the way the employees where treated by management or the owner. This was a very emotionally toxic environment. By far the most politically incorrect place I have ever worked in. I am just not use to people shouting profanities at each other in an office environment which is suppose to deal with Luxury Clientele.
