Toxic culture - constant finger pointing when things go wrong, starts at senior management. Very little commendation (or none), lots of criticism
Support from management
Terrible mid-level management in most departments - not trained for management, always under the gun from senior management, no spirit of 'we are on the same team', so negativity rolls downhill. Company CEO and team totally distanced from what is going on, and no indication that they care. HUGE turnover, no one addressing this turnover or fixing it. Company has bad reputation in community, hard to get new employees
Colleagues so stressed about job / work load that meetings only addressed immediate needs, no pro-activity to make job better or fix workload
Freedom to work independently
No say in what responsibilities are, in my department continual addition of job responsibilities that other departments didn't want to / wouldn't do
Quarterly employee meetings continue to state company is growing / improving, but majority of customers don't believe what is said by senior management
'Good old boys' culture - no women in senior leadership positions.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Age discrimination doesn't seem to be issue. Minimal recognition of long-term employees - annual lunch to recognize 5 year increments of service.
No support for further training at all - CEO stated to company that they don't invest in training employees, but they hire professionals, shouldn't need to train
Overall compensation for your work
Salary paid on time, but many areas underpaid, ESPECIALLY for number of hours required to do the job. Offered 401K with matching - percentage reduced as company grew
Office / Work Environment
Poor ventilation / heating, computers kept updated, but software company uses antiquated, making work harder, not smarter. Refusal of management to invest in tools to help employees work smarter
Newly hired HR director instigated a few programs to support local charities, but very minimal investment or support from management
Many in department worked from home and weekends in addition to 9+ hour days just to keep up on work load. MUCH burnout in entire company - people working harder, not smarter, due to company's unwillingness to invest in resources needed to keep up on work load.
Public images does NOT reflect reality - most employees have very little trust of or respect for senior management.
Job not stable, employee layoffs used to improve overall bottom line. Also have been given paycuts to all to improve bottom line to shareholders.
No elevators, ramp into main building, but no access to lower levels of building known. However, no employees in wheelchairs hired that I know of
Everyone trained upon new hire, updates provided as needed to keep industry certifications to keep medical customers, but minimal only from my position.
I worked very long hours to get the job done, big workload but got it done - but no commendation, only criticism.
Inclusive / Diverse
No, it's mostly a 'we've done it this way for a long time, we will continue this way' attitude - especially if changes will require new monetary resources.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of senior management, they don't want to change. Get someone in to run company with right tools / attitude that can get company to where they want it to be. Start looking at ALL employees as valuable, not just the ones that will kiss up. Pay attention to those who are unhappy and determine if they are valuable employees and if so, LISTEN to them! If not, get rid of them, but try to improve overall company image or you will only keep getting marginal / poor employees.
What I like about the company
Enjoyed co-workers in my department and other departments -some very good people there.
What I dislike about the company
Focus is ONLY bottom line dollars - senior management is very out of touch with and / or doesn't seem to care about what is happening with employees. Some of best people leaving, no exit interviews, unwillingness to change or try anything new to help employees. Plan to grow company not being backed up with changes necessary to get there. Apathy of management to employees seems to indicate senior management is not in it for the long term.
