Company Culture

Work functions were cold and forced.

Support from management

Any opportunity for management to support staff were avoided if they were not also self serving

Teamwork

Employees did their best to work together, in spite of managerial abandonment

Freedom to work independently

One of the very few benefits was a level of autonomy in my daily work

Internal Communication

Some times even basic requests would not be acknowledged for days, and some times weeks.

Career Development

Classes and courses were never considered.

Overall compensation for your work

Enormously under payed, and any talk of a raise was laughed at. Not just denied, but laughed at.

Office / Work Environment

Violence, yelling, temper tantrums, lectures, and chewing out, were all parts of daily life, and did not reflect personal performance or relevance.

Work-Life Balance

My personal life was second to work, regardless of wages or scheduled working hours. Even important personal events were expected to be put on hold.

Job Security

I was made to feel replaceable at any time. People were fired frequently for minor issues regardless of their previous efforts.

Challenging Work

Every day was a struggle. Even slow days would easily be filled with endless projects and wish list items.

Suggestions for improvement

  • The owners need to be removed from all decision making, and all management needs to be replaced by people who know how to lead and manage in a way that doesn't demoralize and abuse employees.

What I dislike about the company

There are very few aspects about Kivel & Howard that I didn't dislike. The environment devalued people, while pushing them to perform until they burned out and left or faltered and were fired. They payed too little, expected too much, and had loyalty to none. It is an absolute wonder that they have been able to stay in business with the turnover and pervasive abuse that goes on there.
