In all honesty, my job in the deli is stressful, but very rewarding. It is worth the time and effort.

Company Culture

There is definitely room for improvement, but when the going gets tough, we work together to get things done.

Support from management

There is definitely room for improvement, but when the going gets tough, we work together to get things done.

Teamwork

This is what either makes or breaks us as a department.

Freedom to work independently

Not at all. Most days, managers are always wanting to know why things are or are not done, despite challenges.

Internal Communication

Honestly, the immediate supervisors are better at communication, as opposed to store management.

Gender Equality

I cannot recall if there is any sexism going on.

Attitude towards older colleagues

As long as you work for the company, everyone is expected to get the job done.

Career Development

There are possibilities on where one can go in their career.

Overall compensation for your work

I earn a decent wage, through hard work, and job promotions.

Office / Work Environment

For the most part, yes. However, there seems to be a lot of things that become temperamental.

Environmental Friendliness

There are definitely efforts to reduce trash by next year for the entire company, I.E. getting rid of plastic bags.

Work-Life Balance

For the most part yes. However, it is expected to help cover shifts and work more when there are call outs.

Company Image

Challenges aside, I love to work for a company where I can help other customers with their needs.

Job Security

Aside from stresses about expectations, I have worked in my department for almost 10 years.

Handicapped Accessibility

This is one I am not sure about, although I know management would have to find the right placement for someone who might not be as fully capable as others in different departments.

Workplace Safety

The management does try to enforce safety, to prevent accidents and injuries.

Challenging Work

In the mornings it is very important to get the department full and ready by 9 am to help make it easier the rest of the day.

Inclusive / Diverse

For the most part, yes. However, it is expected to get the job done, regardless of how one feels.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would allow for more of a relaxed attitude, within good reason. There needs to be less stress, and more encouragement and feedback on how they are doing. I know that there are expectations that need to be met, but intimidation and yelling are not the way to go. More stress leads to accidents or employees more upset and it shows with the customers. It should be handled with more communication and understanding. I would also encourage accountability on everyone, so it does not feel one sided as far as how some can get away with things others would not.

What I like about the company

I enjoy the friendships made through working with my coworkers. I also love the success we all share when we get the job done, and make all involved very happy. I have also seen people overcome challenges that were thought to be hardships, and made the day much easier than previously thought. Through hard work and determination, I was able to achieve full time status, due to help from immediate supervisors to allow for the hours to allow me to apply for full time status, and eventually succeed. I have also seen people work together, under pressure, and make the best of the situation, and make the whole experience seem worth it.

What I dislike about the company

I honestly disapprove of the extreme pressure being put on the store when the store will be walked by various upper management. It feels as though there are higher expectations, when a lot of employees are already working as hard as they can to make their departments looks as best as they can, with what is possible to be done in the allotted time. I also do not appreciate it that there are a lot of expectations on what needs to be done, that helping customers is not factored in, even though that is our main focus. If a customer is ignored or feels they are not happy with how they are treated, we get yelled at, with good reason, but it seems to be surprising if one gets delayed in their progress due to having to help with customers, who can come in groups, or have a list of items needed, that takes time.
