You get scolded for being sick

Support from management

Management will outright lie to you, tell you things that the Union handbook contradicts, and guilt you for being sick or needing time off. I was on ed asked for photographic proof I was in the hospital.

Hahaha ha, no. You do what your told.

If I could rate this a zero I would. Nobody communicates. Managers will give you conflicting instructions and tell you to ignore other managers.

Depends on the store and manager. I've had sexist managers and I've had feminist managers.

Company Culture

Company is more concerned with production/ making money over safety. Company also pushes High performance system but refuses to roll it out properly.

Support from management

Management lacks experience which it shows. Mangement is more concerned making their numbers look impressive. Could careless about the employees and safety for them.

Teamwork

Employees work ok together on the floor. But lack of accountability breeds it's not my job environment.

Freedom to work independently

Thats part of high performance. You should be able to run a room by yourself. With a turn over rate of 25% or higher breeds that enviroment of one person working mulitple jobs.

Internal Communication

There is alot of miscommunication or zero communication between management and employees. It's a fly by the seat of your pants and roll with it environment.

Good mix of women and men.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Younger generation tends to mock older generation. Lack of respect. Compnay has tried to fix this issue. But kore of a generational issue then company.

Career Development

Unless you have a degree forget moving up in this company. Its required to have a bachelor's degree to make management. Tech levels for employees are unrealistic and difficult to achieve.

Overall compensation for your work

For what they ask you to do and more I think an extra 2 bucks per level would compensate. But that will never happen. Also making tech level teirs to move up will allow employees to feel they are accomplishing something at work.

Lots of upset, disgruntled employees. Promotional movement is hindered and expectations to achieve promotion way to high.

Environmental Friendliness

Company is working on 0 to waste. But uses lots of plastics.

Work-Life Balance

Kroger could care less if you have work life balance. Work every holiday, sometimes 6-7 days a week.

With employees it is ok. Most employees refuse to drink some of the products knowing how they are handled or what's added to them.

Job Security

Hard to get fired unless you call in alot. But processors are easily let go for making mistakes. It does cost company money but improper training and lack of accountability has lead to this enviroment.

Not handicapped friendly.

Workplace Safety

People are afraid to run machines because the lack of pms or maintenance. Very slow to fix concerns of employees. Dumping powders employees have asked for mask and still have yet to receive a mask worthy.

Depends in the area you work in. Some areas are harder then others. And accountability is higher in some areas then others.

Inclusive / Diverse

Good diversity in the plant.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Management with more experience in manufacturing and mangement skills. Also with empathy and knowledge of the work floor. Rarely see a mangement person on the floor learning a machine or understanding why it is malfunctioning.

The people are fun to work with minus management.

Company that worries only about money/production over employees. Lack of accountability.

It's completely gone from good morale to feeling worthless because you simply just can't do enough.

Support from management

Yeah right. If you call "micromanagement" a form of support. You aren't allowed to say "no" even if you have a valid answer why you really aren't able to do certain work(your doctor tells you not to lift so many pounds at once, for example) under penalty of being fired. Management will write you up for things beyond your control and are not willing to help you remedy the problem. They do this to full timers to get rid of them so they can hire a bunch of part timers and not pay them as much so the CEO can give himself another big fat million dollar raise he doesn't deserve.

Teamwork

Everyone is out for themselves anymore because nobody wants to be there.

Freedom to work independently

I'm too scared to even try. Managers are always down everyone's throats because they believe we aren't doing enough work. So they pile on more work so that we don't have time for breaks.

Nobody tells anyone anything and then you get a surprise writeup for being blamed for out of stocks you had no control over.

They do not value the elderly. You are expected to do just as much job as young people including lifting.

No appreciation for time and effort. Sometimes they'll call in food but that isn't a substitute for better management.

I do not recommend this as a good place to work. Stay away from the Fern Creek store, there are better jobs out there.

I guess they have to do what the other stores do.

You'll be lucky to be off when you need to. Short handed departments mean time away from your family more than you want.

They're burning it pretty badly.

Disagree with management and you get canned.

Everyone can move around in the store.

The fuel station does not have a bathroom, which violates OSHA rules.

Not even challenging. It's stuff management wouldn't do so we have to do it.

Nobody's opinions are valued, get to work and finish it in a small amount of time or you're fired. Oh, and no overtime. If you can't finish your overload of work in your shift, you will be written up for overtime.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Replace the management at that store and see how things suddenly start improving. The assistant manager acts like she owns the store and is causing morale to dive bomb and good employees to quit. Quit micromanaging employees and see things improve. Lighten the load in some of these departments so that if corporate doesn't want overtime, they can get their wish.

Clocking out and leaving.

What I dislike about the company

Just go through the above list. I can't think of a single positive thing about this place I'd want to say anymore. It truly never was this way, but now...I dread the thought of going in to work every day there. People don't quit bad stores, they quit bad management. And I am not afraid to leave for something better because it's out there. I have given 15 years of my life to this place without a single bit of gratitude. They would rather see me gone because they don't want full timers anymore.

What I like about the company

College reimbursement would be helpful so that some of us who are less fortunate could have the opportunity to grow in our fields. Whether it's in a management position or just clerical work................. quip. I don't understand how you can expect women to get as far as men in a man's world. We are expected to do the laundry clean the house give birth to the children then make a living that is ridiculous. If we were paid for all of the hard work we do maybe it wodnt discourage us to be so negative toward our Male bosses. Treat us fairly.

What I like about the company

My only positive response is when I had a tumor removed from my face and couldn't see for a couple days due to swelling. The manager at the time came and checked me out and told me to go home after another one had threatened to fire me for calling off

The more veteran employees are very selfish to the younger ones and I wish they'd be more willing to help instead
