Suggestions for improvement
- The environment is not that of a team. The station manager is quick to fire workers who are perceived as inadequate as opposed to first offering more training. It’s not a supportive environment. That in turn creates conflict among coworkers because no one wants to be at fault for mistakes. It is important to be your very best everyday... or else.
What I like about the company
This company hired me when I was desperate to break into television as a serious journalist. The newsroom managers push you to be your absolute best, and they will try to give you as much opportunity as the station manager will allow.
What I dislike about the company
Once you’re in a position, there is not a lot of opportunity for advancement. Once you’ve negotiated your compensation do not expect additional compensation over time. It’s very important to hammer that out on the front end. The station manager is very hands on with the news product and many employees feel he’s overbearing. It can take a toll once you feel forced into pleasing him. We all have a lot of non traditional duties that also take more time. Expect a heavy workload with very little paid time off your first few years.
