  • I'm not sure what La Quinta Corporation's rules or policies are for franchise owners, so I can only make conclusions based on how my location operated. I would try to find ways to hold the owners and/or managers representing the company's name more accountable when they fall short of what the standards are. Or possibly a steeper penalty for not following those standards at all times. Our building's maintenance, and sometimes safety, was often at times questionable due to the owner not wanting to be out financially for repairs. At inspection times, only rooms in pristine conditions were available, because as long as we passed inspection, the rest could wait. And any penalty for failing would still cost less than the repairs. So things were put off until next inspection. If possibly the penalties outweighed the task, or if there was a risk of a mystery shopper-type inspection, they may have been more concerned about keeping their standards.

What I like about the company

La Quinta takes pride in its brand quality, which helps us be able to better serve our guests, and be confident in what we offer them. All new employee training is guest-focused, instead of revenue-centered. Their philosophy is more about do as much as we possibly can for the guests and they'll return, less about drive the sale and profit higher but risk losing the repeat business.
It offers a lot of incentive and recognition/reward programs available to employees at any level, as well as the location as a whole. A property's "success" scoring is reliant on customer reviews and new business, as well as sales increase. On top of it, if a guest mentions outstanding service by any specific employee, La Quinta recognizes, or sometimes rewards, the employee personally, instead of just crediting management and raising their bonus.
Overall, to me, La Quinta seemed to put guest satisfaction and employee retention above the bottom line of sales, and that says a lot about a company.

What I dislike about the company

The only thing that was lacking was as much interest in the physical property itself as it paid to guests and employees. They do inspections regularly to make sure everything was consistent with La Quinta brand, as far as we offered to our guests. Any discrepencies in that, as well as any issues with the actual building itself, were noted in their report, but they never really seemed to put as much effort into that as they did the areas of quality. Or maybe our manager just knew how to work around it all.

  • I've seen upper management scream at employees in front of guests. This should never happen. I've had to regularly comfort other employees because GM has brought them to tears. GM will not let any one finish talking. GM talks over everyone and will not listen.

What I like about the company

The guests are usually always nice.

What I dislike about the company

Management refuses to grant PTO time for employee with a sick child that has been hospitalized. Hire more permanent employees instead of using mostly temps so that shifts are able to be covered in case emergencies such as above happen.

  • I would have a welcome video for orientation that new employees can watch that goes over the handbook so the manager doesn’t have to do it individually for an hour each and every time. I’d also find a different site to look for applicants on as indeeed is open to anybody.

What I like about the company

I have moved up within this company very rapidly. I was always recognized for a job well done. I go into work with a positive attitude every day looking to improve and do better. I have gotten very close with my fellow employees & some days it feels verymuch like a family atmosphere.

What I dislike about the company

- starting pay is low making good employees hard to find
- outside management gives you numbers to reach instead of real feedback
- your boss always tells you to do whats right, instead of just telling you the right answer
