Support from management
Expectations are not realistic, have been told by management "it's my way or the highway," and have been informed "we are not authorizing any continuing education, that is on your own time."
Teamwork is nonexistent with management and management is dismissive at best; with other staff members there is teamwork and very good communication with one another.
Freedom to work independently
Management says they will not micromanage, yet they do the opposite.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Senior colleagues are not always appreciated and supported.
I was told that continuing education was to be completed on my own time; I work 8-5 M-F, most professional development training is conducted during normal work hours. I recently requested a 1/2 day training, that I am paying for, and was told I had to get "permission" first.
Overall compensation for your work
GET IT IN WRITING, I was told when I was hired that I would get a certain salary once my internship was up, that was not the case at all and I am making less than many of my co-workers, who are fully licensed.
Office / Work Environment
The offices themselves, in the unit I work on most often, the temperature varies greatly, one day hot then next everyone has to wear their jackets, there is not enough computers for everyone to complete the demands of the job, do not consistently have the necessary equipment to perform my job, yet when I purchase these items I have not been consistently reimbursed, was promised a certain items when I moved to my new position and a year later I am still waiting for these items.
Minimal at best, we have a company come to collect items that need to be shredded, other than that we are not eco-conscious.
I have a salaried position and it is not uncommon for me to work 60 plus hours a week. The management is indifferent if you have a family life or a life outside of the job.
We are told that we are expendable.
I am not sure if it is OSHA compliant or not. They do maintain mandatory on-line training on how to prevent accidents in the workplace. If you are in a salaried position, this is on your own time, if you are hourly then you get compensation of a few hours to complete the training.
There is not enough time to complete all the work that is given.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity in regards to people, yes. Diversity in regards to ideas and opinions, no.
Suggestions for improvement
- Pay employees what they are worth (which is why so many leave) and hire people who have a sense of ethics.
What I like about the company
I like my co-workers and the location, it is easy for me to get to and most days from my job.
What I dislike about the company
I dislike the lack of ethics, micromanagement, condescending and dismissive demeanor from management.
