What I like

I have worked for legacy for 2 years and it’s a great company. The managers support their staff!

What I dislike

Some position should be allowed for remote work as it’s not essential to be on site.

Suggestions for improvement

Improve benefits, health care is too expensive.

It was great until it wasn’t. There are no employee protections and weak middle management. Work here at your own risk.

Former EmployeeWorked in Administration at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon.

What I like

I loved being trusted to make decisions and create action plans to increase productivity. And being able to show progress to upper level management.

What I dislike

Suffering unempowered Human Resources officials.

Suggestions for improvement

Introducing employee empowerment through bargaining units. The culture is aggressively top down which does not empower middle management to do the right thing. Middle management generally has to choose the easy thing instead. The result is they look good (or at least okay to the superiors) however, hard-working, dedicated employees get the shaft. For example, during the economic downturn employees were let go. Instead of “trimming the fat” and getting rid of low production and/or problem staff the manager copped out and got rid of the “last hired” (this did not personally affect me however, it did affect my colleagues). How can you run an organization properly when you trust middle management to make decisions just so they don’t look bad to higher leadership?

Company Culture

My direct team was amazing. After 6 years we still have regular group get-togethers.

Internal Communication

Sometimes the communication was pretty good however, staff were often left in the dark.

Teamwork

Yes however, this was done to stave off oversight responsibility.

Work-Life Balance

Personally, I did not have issues in this regard however, many colleagues were essentially forced to find work elsewhere as staffing was so inadequate there was no “life” in the work-life balance.

Support from management

After my last advancement I had an immature manager who gaslighted me out of my job. Up until then I felt completely supported.

Freedom to work independently

Yes however, lacking when oversight is obviously necessary.

Inclusive / Diverse

To an extent, but all companies just have to do that nowadays. There is always the “inclusion” lip-service however, I am not certain that diversity is actually valued.

Gender Equality

After seeing multiple men receive promotions when far more qualified women were passed up I absolutely disagree that there is equal opportunity l.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I believe this to be true but am saddened that “older employees” start at 45. At 60+ my answer would not be as positive.

Overall compensation for your work

I was fairly compensated.

Company Image

I was very proud to be a long-standing successful employee.

Career Development

Plenty of opportunity I advanced regularly during my time at Legacy. And there were always approachable mentors.

Challenging Work

Occasionally we were dealing with life and death scenarios.

They are up to the market with pay and compensation. They tend to want us to do more with less

What I like

The team is great and we all take care of each other. We work hard and all care deeply for the patients we care for

What I dislike

They make large changes without the input of the nurses which is very frustrating

Suggestions for improvement

I wish we got help with workouts. I pay 200/ month on fitness and don’t see a MD or take medications for my health. They pay for weight watchers so we can’t that people who have prevented or are get help

Company Culture

Team Oriented and people want to do the right thing

Office / Work Environment

Chemo and not always the best handling process

Challenging Work

Nursing, doing more with less
