Upper management just needs worker bees. You as an employee are disposable in production. Alloderm has a revolving door due to that mentality.
Support from management
Just do your job and make those numbers... upper management doesn't care about who you are or what your credentials are.
If you are a hard worker and don't mind taking up the slack of the slackers within production... You will fit in well with the team. Hint: Favoritism runs rampant so make sure you buddy up with your supervisors and group leads!
Freedom to work independently
Oh you can work independently all right.... when your co-workers mysteriously disappear when there is work to be done, leaving you to "work independently"
Very uncertain outlook on future of Company. Since the take over by Allergan, Lifecell employees have been living under the threat of pending lay-offs due to upper managements bad decisions and shady business practices.
1st shift Strattice is run by a woman who never promotes male workers to the level of Technician 2. As an employee for Lifecell for 5 years there was not one promotion of a male worker under her leadership. The male workers were subject to the heavy work loads that the female workers should have been doing themselves. Very gender biased.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The older employees within the Strattice Dept. were stuck doing the menial labor that the younger new hired didn't like to do. The older colleagues were looked down upon as slow or not capable of learning technical jobs within the dept.
Virtually none... just keep making the numbers. There is rarely adancement within this company. Usually the only thing you hear about are lateral moves within the dept. from employees trying to escape the from production.
Overall compensation for your work
if getting a .20-.50 raise each year makes you happy than go for it! Plucking hairs out of dead pigs is disgusting and certainly worth more then what this company cares to pay the hard working employees. All the long time employees got good raises in the past and pass all of the disgusting work off on the new employees so they are happy with their pay.
Office / Work Environment
The Strattice dept. was plagued by ants coming up through the floors, flying ants coming down from the ceiling light fixtures, and frequent sewer back-ups within the processing dept. Some of these events would be occurring even while the FDA was within the building; but, quickly cleaned up up and kept under the radar. The lunchroom constantly had cockroaches crawling around that were thought to be coming from one of the many employee lunch bags or articles of clothing sitting around in the dining area. The employees themselves were disgusting.. Constantly leaving the empty plates, dirty napkins, or left over food sitting on the tables after eating... yuck!
They have recycle containers on site...
Its not too bad. You will be working four days a week at 10 hours a day, therefore long weekends are common.
Lately this headline has appeared in all major News networks: "A judge calls foul on Allergan's attempt to hide its drug patents behind an Indian tribe's sovereignty" so, I'd say that Lifecell's name has been tarnished by their new owner's shady business practices!
Since the buy out by Allergan, there have been two lay-offs and always talk of more. Very uncertain whether certain product lines will survive long term. Make sure your resume is updated if you plan on working here.
no problems with handicap accessibility.. IT'S THE LAW
Not too bad but working with human skin is a risk at the facility because the processing begins on the dermis before the serologic tests have come back. Although its rare, there is always the potential to be exposed to AIDS or hepatitis while working in Alloderm.
Repetitive work day after day, month after month, year after year.... No challenge other then to make the production numbers required by the end of each week.
Inclusive / Diverse
Mostly Spanish workers. The language in production was mostly spoken in Spanish. The music played in production was either Reggaeton, Bachata, or Salsa. Nepotism and favoritism towards brown-nosers was prevalent. If you disagreed with the "culture" you would be black listed and either "let-go" or "laid-off"
Suggestions for improvement
- Quit and find something better... All recommendations for improvement fall on deaf ears.
What I like about the company
Free ice cream once a week during summer months. Free coffee once a week during winter months. Other then that...it's just a job.
What I dislike about the company
Upper managements attitude that everyone is replaceable. HR (very unprofessional) Group leads favoring ppl who kiss their butts. Disgusting work environment. Shame in Allergan's brand name since they made the news with their shady business practices.
