Career Development

This company does not give many avenues for career advancement or development. Training is extremely rare, promotions are even more so. Good luck trying to move up in a company that only advances people who never call out sick and are willing to work a difficult job for next to no pay.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would like to see this company raise the minimum wage for clinicians from $12/hr to no less than $16/hr. This is a job which requires intensive training, strong skills in several different areas, and a phenomenal amount of patience. The clinicians deserve more than they currently earn. I would also suggest more training throughout the year; the opportunity for clinicians to openly interview for positions within their center (i.e. Office Assistant), rather than the center director simply choosing someone; and fair employment status. If a clinician works year-round instead of just for the summer season, they're employee status should read part- or full-time rather than seasonal. This way, they will have access to benefits (such as paid holidays) that they would not have access to otherwise.

What I like about the company

Lindamood-Bell is a very fulfilling company to work for. It's easy to see progress day-to-day in the students, and the centers are designed to have a friendly atmosphere.

What I dislike about the company

I don't like that employees cannot make a living wage unless they are promoted to consultant or higher. As a clinician, you make $12.00/hr, no questions asked. Even if you were able to get a full 40 hours per week (which absolutely will never happen; the only time during the year you will get 40 hours is during the summer. All other seasons average 20 hours/week if you're lucky), you will be living well below the poverty line. You are forced to live paycheck to paycheck, and in return, clinicians have very little autonomy in the workplace. I don't like Lindamood-Bell as an employer because they do not value their clinicians as human beings who must earn a decent wage in order to live.
