The work climate is based on who you know. No fairness or a lot of trust within this particular setting.
Support from management
Unable to get honest and fair feedback in conflict situations from leadership. Everything about the structure of their conflict system is off balance. Open door policy is present but do so cautiously. Clue: leadership creates cliques within work groups.
The cliques within groups are so tight that you have to meet approvals before accepted. It was a lot of open conflict within groups.
Freedom to work independently
You can see that work is distributed from a political standpoint. It's a do as you are told system without asking any questions or else.
Their are meetings regarding how the business is performing and when employees are not doing their jobs properly.
There are mostly women employees. Men seem to do better in that work environment than women.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Employees 45 or over do as well as younger employees because it's all about how well you fit in here.
There is advancement but to a point. Again it depends on how you fit in.
Overall compensation for your work
Salaries do not always match assignments because you are given tasks on popularity. Political placement is the biggest predictor of your success here.
Office / Work Environment
The working conditions were very bad when I was there. There was mold, asbestos, rats, roaches, broken equipment, not ergonomically fit, and old working equipment. improved now that they are in a new building.
Life balance exists but don't take advantage of it. Supervision will harass you if you take off.
Not many speak highly of the company. This is even coming from those socially and politically set.
There is job security because it's a government agency. Again if you are not liked for any reason job security can be uncertain.
Maybe now but before complaints took place before disabled accessibility was improved or given any attention.
Training was provided on accident prevention but it was not taken seriously. Equipment was faulty and not much was done to correct it. This lead to many industrial injuries. Maybe different now in new building.
The workload is intense much of the time but not difficult. Proud to complete task but don't expect much for your efforts.
Inclusive / Diverse
It is diverse but don't make it a part of achieving business goals. Support with opinions and ideas are based on management's value of them.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get better supervision, management, and administrators. Too many layers of management, which creates confusion in directing employees. Stop hiring family and friends. Management needs to discontinue partying and going out with employees socially. Creates much of the unfairness and nepotism.
What I like about the company
It was close to the beach.
What I dislike about the company
Bad management practices. Employees are very unprofessional. Staff mistreats the public they serve. A lot of unfairness and toxic behaviors present. Work is not distributed fairly. Expectations are different for certain employees. Exclusion is present when outside of cliques.
