Company culture

Awful. We were all lied-to about layoffs and they put a spin on potential layoffs. Our Store Management are nothing but gutless, back-stabbing cowards. That's the way they get promoted.

Support from Management

Sarcasm runs rampant from Management. Over-inflated egos. They brag A LOT about themselves.

Teamwork

No - Never. There;s never enough people on the floor to help customers, and management knows it, but they want their bonuses so they don't care. Management will bark-out orders over the Intercom when they can just as easily fix the problem themselves. For example, a Manager will walk past long lines of customers at the registers and instead of opening a register immediately, they'll page a "Code 3" and continue to walk by. In other words "Do as I say, not as I do".

Communication

Can't believe a word they say. They lie a lot.

Gender Equality

Few minorities in Management.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Terrible. The worst. Older, more educated and experienced associates being passed-up on promotions. Clearly a violation of their Civil Rights.

Career Development

If you're young, shmooz-up to Management and back-stab colleagues you can get ahead. Management is egotistical and insecure.

Overall Compensation for your work

Better than some places, but health insurance is terrible.

Office/Work Environment

Terrible. So many people have to pretend that they like the Managers because that's the only way they think they can survive and get ahead. Pathetic.

Eco-consciousness

They go through so much paper it's ridiculous.

Work-Life Balance

A lot of times you'll have to close and come in the next morning to open. It's so stupid. Management doesn't know how to schedule.

Company Image

Smoking mirrors. The romote a great place to shop when in reality there's never enough staff to help customers and we're so burned-out with all of our daily tasks, i.e. IRPs, freight, Cycle Counts, Code 3s, Code 50s, Cart Runs, that by the time it gets we're burned-out and miserable. Then you get sarcastic remarks from Management who just stands around talking with each other.

Job security

Can't believe a word they say, considering they knew about Layoffs and lied to us daily. Management can't be trusted.

Handicap Accessibility

Flat floors for wheelchairs and power lifts to reach high places.

Workplace Safety

It's okay, but more cameras are needed.

Challenging Work

The real challenge is how to keep your cool because there's so many bad things going on every single day.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Reinstate the Bright Ideas Program. Listen to your store associates - a lot of us have good ideas who can save and/or make a lot of money for the company. Add Foreign Language software to the Intranet. This can help us to help non-English speaking customers.

I like about the employer

They are closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I dislike about the employer

Managers are terrible. They lie, they're lazy and they back-stab to get ahead. Most unethical place that I've ever worked at. Management survives on lying and listening to their cronies who want to get ahead by sucking-up to them. When it comes to open positions, they already have someone in mind and "fudge" the Interview process. When it's close to Bonus Times, they have the associates cheat on Customer Surveys in order to get their Year End Bonus.

Excellent, tolerant, respectful, invested in employees

Level of Autonomy

I ranked low but in reality, it isn't entirely appropriate for employees to have much autonomy when it is crucial that Lowe's maintain a consistent brand over a huge company.

Overall Compensation for your work

While it is common to hear the "wages are too low" feedback throughout reviews of any employer, Lowe's wages are in fact, below standard. Do not expect to make above $30K in a management position. Most associate positions will be below $12 an hour. Specialist - an integral position for a company that values experienced, professionals with technical knowledge to assist DYI homeowners - will be paid below $20. Benefits are fair but not great. There is a 401K and stock options.

Work-Life Balance

Here in lies Lowe's biggest area of opportunity. They require complete commitment, without exception, to open availability. This means from 6am to 10pm, every day of the year. You will not be able to take classes, volunteer or do anything outside of work that requires a regularly scheduled commitment because Lowe's will only hire those who commit to 100% availability. You schedule will fluxuate on a daily basis and you will not know your schedule until about 15 days out. Your life will have no regularity or richness from outside activities. Unfortunately, for a smart company, Lowe's will continue to lose valuable human capital both through missed opportunity hires and current employees who cannot dedicate their entire waking lives to Lowe's - particularly for minimum/low wages. Unfortunate!

I like about the employer

Lowe's believes in a safe, respectful work environment. Employees are treated fairly and encouraged to support each other to achieve company goals. Overall a pleasant, comfortable work environment.

I dislike about the employer

Lowe's needs to move to a shift-based staffing structure and evaluate wages.

Career Development

Although in the past lowes would be a good place to make a career with the recent re-structure of the company there are far fewer positions worth making a career in the company open, and if you begin to make more than what others make do not expect to be promoted in fact expect to be fired because you make 'too much'.

Overall Compensation for your work

The company essentially gives pay raises out equally based on position without concern for how hard or valuable that associate is.

Job security

The company has fired many people simply for changing the structure of the company without offering them another position despite some of these employees working for Lowes for Decades.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Begin to view your employees as "your people" take care of them.

I like about the employer

They have flexible hours and work with your scheduling, so this makes a good job if you have many other responsibilities.

I dislike about the employer

They do not value their employees and treat them like a number.
