Lowe's communicates a wonderful vision, however, still needs to work on employee consensus.
Support from Management
Management heavily leans on the few driven employees to get the job done. others are given the privilege of the social pubic relations status; while others just simply get through the day by riding the wave of low profiled task and responsibilities. A common practice in the retail workplace.
Unless the Phrase "It is who you know, not what you know that matters!" means team work.
Level of Autonomy

It is in the area of communications that the biggest challenge lies at Lowe's.

Attitude towards older colleagues
Appreciation for the true and tried mature older generation is slowly but surely disappearing.
Lowe's most certainly has career development, however, promoting at Lowe's will vary from store to store based on the emotional intelligence of the leadership. Some managers will lean on favouritism surrounding themselves with people they want in the innermost circle; while others will put the corporates vision needs first and hire not the best fit for the job, but the best person for the job regardless of age, race, gender, or belief.

These individuals are the pillars of Lowe's success. These are the great mentors that the future of Lowe's depends heavily on. There still are a few employees that will tell you that most rewarding experience is that of a customer who returns to thank you for the difference that you made in their life. Otherwise Lowe's has good and bad days just like any other workplace.

In a constantly rotating work schedule where everyone is attempting to accommodate their personal interests and life styles; you come to a realization that attempting to properly staff the store in order to get the workload done does not make for a good nor fair work-life balance.
Lowe's truly cares and works hard on their overall image.
While Lowe's has a nice mentor-ship program in place; the fact of the matter is that there is no job security anywhere! The biggest complaint always comes from new-hires who express that they are denied proper training by employees who fear loosing their jobs.
Lowe's is always compliant with handicap needs.
Lowe's takes employee safety seriously.
In a retail work environment with so many variables to prevent a true workplace structure; the challenge is always there. Whether it be an emotionally distraught employee or customer; it is up to you to use your skills, product knowledge, and life experience to save the day.
At Lowe's you will most certainly work with individuals from all walks of life. Diversity is important to both Lowe's and the clientèle alike.
Suggestions for improvement
- When corporate communicates the need for change; change isn't always something that management can impose, delegate, or trickle down! Change is painlessly accomplished by the type of leadership that inspires, motivates, and brings employees to a consensus, but at no time manipulates with intent to force results to happen! Often, this change can only happen by first changing those at the top!
What I like about the company
Lowe's communicates and drives a wonderful vision.
What I dislike about the company
Not everyone who is currently working at Lowe's have a clear understanding of what Lowe's vision is about and what it will take to realize it, and they often use perspective as an excuse for the choices and ill fated decisions they make. Having a corporate vision yet doing things the same way over and over expecting to see change or better results!
