- Abilene Aero, Inc.04.Dec 2016
Culture of short sightedness, and taking shortcuts to disregard employee safety in favor of increasing profits on the P&L report. Daily operations generally go against their own employee handbook, and the employee is constantly in danger of being fired for breaking policies they are expected to break, until the next mishap. Management takes care of themselves, and that's where the buck stops. Enjoy making wages around half of industry standards, no bonuses, no performance incentives, no raises or promotions.
Support from management
Management doesn't spend one extra minute on the clock, is generally clueless about daily business operations, and attempts to set unrealistic expectations. Do not expect to have your voice heard in any decision tree.
The employees generally have a good culture of supporting one another, mostly influenced by lack of management knowledge and support.
Freedom to work independently
This Business runs itself without any feedback from management.
Horrible communication all around. Word of mouth is primary communication.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The few employees who have been here for years run the show, and not in a good way.
No raises, promotions, performance incentives, or bonuses.
Overall compensation for your work
Wages around half of industry standards. Lubbock Aero employees have 4 times the required certifications as Abilene Aero, but make the same amount of pay. Enjoy doing more work, for less money.
Office / Work Environment
Horrible office environment. Rude front desk clerks, office gossip, no thermostat control, poor lighting in the hangars, basic computers with Outlook is all the tech you get.
Several safety checks missing for bad fuels, chemicals. Routinely see chemicals going into city drains and flood zones due to no oversight, skimping on funds for safety related equipment/repairs.
Schedules written one week at a time, usually after everyone is gone. Poor scheduling leads to call ins, working 3 to 4 different shifts a week, doing doubles (16 hours), and being back at work in under 8 hours from your clock out. Not a good place to have a family.
Company vision is "To be a top 10 independently owned FBO". Management seems to not understand with shoddy, unsafe, failing equipment, poor leadership, unsafe working conditions, disgruntled (underpaid) employees, and poor working conditions, the only top 10 list you are going to make is lawsuits filed.
Unless you are management, you can and will be fired for any reason, especially financial gain.
Horribly unsafe. Leaking fuel trucks, fuel trucks with no dash lights, or horns, or door handles, tugs with no brakes, 20 foot tanks without safety platforms or rails, flammable liquids stored in wooden structures. The list goes on and on. Fire marshal is related to a manager, and looks the other way on most issues. Invest in the life insurance, because they aren't interested in investing in your safety.
