Suggestions for improvement
- The company is way too top heavy. You often heard the saying "too many generals and not enough soldiers to do the actual work". Management showed little concern for what you already had on your plate. Management always seemed to be largely disconnected with what was happening on the shop floor. The only thing you heard was "we have been tasked to do more with less". This was particularly painful during reductions in work force. We experienced many of these. We succumbed because we felt resistance was futile. With a new president voted into office at the end of 2015, supposedly it is now all about being lean. While I cannot comment what has transpired since I was laid off, lean seemed to be limited to idling various buildings at the Shady Grove facility and laying off more and more people. At the same time top management was telling us that they saw a bright future ahead for the company. Being told to all pull together for a common good and then find out the next day you were laid off felt like a slap in the face. It makes you wonder what the true management intentions are.
I like about the employer
From my perspective as a quality engineer there is not much to like about Manitowoc as a whole.
