Company Culture

culture is all PR--they really couldn't care less about valuing individuals. Their main concern is making money and avoiding employee lawsuits or fighting unions.

Support from management

They will support you with strategic documentation to fabricate your flaws and cover their own hides.

Teamwork

Only motivated by the threat of losing your job.

Freedom to work independently

Yes, you will work independently....because there is minimal staff to support you. I don't know if that is exactly freedom though.

Internal Communication

Poor. Even if messages are communicated there is lots of misinterpretation and backstabbing.

Gender Equality

sure.....they hire men, women and all 73 other genders.

Attitude towards older colleagues

The attitude towards all colleagues is poor.

Career Development

If you are minimally educated and a minority, sharpen your schmoozing skills and latch onto an upwardly mobile manager. You can coattail through a very productive career---but don't lose sight that it's just a manufactured game for your own success. It's not about hospitality.

Overall compensation for your work

Benefits are outstanding--especially if you provide insurance for spouse/partner and kids. They would pay you less if they possibly could.

Office / Work Environment

My office was an old chemical storage closet and I shared it with 2 other managers. But the event sales staff had elegant suites with mood lighting so I guess it depends.

Environmental Friendliness

If you're there for office politics it's quite friendly. If you're there to work hard and actually express an opinion it won't last long.

Work-Life Balance

Shifts that last 300pm to 400am--exactly how does one balance that??

Company Image

surprisingly their marketing department is the most effective component. People actually believe its a great company.

Job Security

there is no negative star rating. I give it one star because upper management is pretty much permanently armored.

Handicapped Accessibility

required by law

Workplace Safety

...with the exception of carrying other employee's knives in your back.

Challenging Work

Extremely challenging. More work than you can possibly accomplish. Luckily, you start anew every single day. If you love the movie Groundhog Day, this is your wet dream.

Inclusive / Diverse

......with the exception of caucasian males, but they don't matter anymore.

Suggestions for improvement

  • increasing the pay
  • increasing the staffing
  • removing the uniforms to allow employees to be themselves
  • requiring schedules to be released more than one week at a time and with advance notice
  • not allowing closing shifts immediately followed by opening shifts

What I like about the company

I really enjoyed everyone I worked it. It felt like a family there, and we all bonded together.

What I dislike about the company

The working conditions were not ideal. There would be two people responsible for prepping, serving, cooking, and cleaning during the entire breakfast shift. We would leave disgusting and exhausted. For the work we weee forced to do, we should have been paid a lot more.

It also was impossible to maintain a work life balance. I worked 6 days a week, every week. I would have to work until midnight and be back at 5 am the next Day regularly. I never had two days off in a row, and the schedules weren’t released until Thursdays right before the weekend.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I think pay should be increased, benefits should be offered to part time employees. Management should work more with to give their employees steady and stable work schedules. There should be an effort to alternate weekends off for each employee (one or two weekends a month). There was a lot of favoritism within management when making the schedule and if you were part of the "in" crowd, you'd be thrown the worst hours. This should be preventable by upper management to ensure this does not happen.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed working with other people at the front desk. Getting to meet customers and guests from around the country was always fun and kept things interesting.

What I dislike about the company

I did not appreciate the lack of benefits for part time employees, considering I'd work just an hour under full time every week. I did not enjoy the low pay for high expectations... Front desk employees essentially help run the hotel and are the face of almost every interaction that guests have during their stay. The hours and shifts can be very demanding and pay should reflect that. Pay should be at least a living wage.
