For faculty, the flexibility is the key asset to working here. It helps make up for the pay and the decreasing benefits
Suggestions for improvement
- More communication between administration and faculty or staff. Include faculty and staff in major decisions. Consider getting rid of Blackboard and using a more stable Learning Management Software. Decrease the time-consuming service requirements for promotion and tenure.
What I like about the company
The department coworkers are supportive of one another. The flexibility is the major benefit of working here. You work independently most of the time, so no one is breathing down your neck. There's a great deal of paid time off between the three semesters. Working summers adds to your pay, and is not counted as part of your contract. The South Charleston campus has free parking, and most people know one another.
What I dislike about the company
Communication between administration and faculty or staff is poor at best. The IT department has more clout when it comes to the online Learning Management Software than the faculty who use have. Most decisions are top-down decisions. Budget cuts over the last few years have left those who remain doing more with less. Morale is low at the moment, due to the budget cuts.
