- Maryland State Police (Baltimore, MD / United States)24.Nov 2015
Police work in general is a under appreciated job. If you do your job you don't here anything good or bad. If you mess up they will certainly let you know.
Support from management
Leadership isn't based on job performance as much as it is just testing and passing oral boards well.
Most people work well together. There are a few that only look out for themselves to get promoted.
There isn't enough between administration and the workers.
Men and women have same opportunities.
Attitude towards older colleagues
This is a work environment where seniority tends to be sought out for assistance and guidance.
The company will assist in getting you training within the State. If it costs money, hard to get approved unless high in rank.
Overall compensation for your work
Salary needs to be looked at to be in line with other departments in the State.
Office / Work Environment
They have been improving the equipment of the past few years but the vehicles have many miles on them.
They are well aware of social matters and their reputation is high in the State for doing the right things.
It is a commitment. Can be called out at any time, though it is far and few. Be prepared to work holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, since it is a quasi-military operation and 24/7.
Maryland State Police has an outstanding image. Even with all the issues listed, the men and women of the department care what they do.
Good job security. Always will be a position for police.
They provide excellent training and safety equipment but the nature of police work is inherently dangerous.
The work is both physically and mentally challenging.
Inclusive / Diverse
They do promote using diversity but at times is this is not fair.
