What I like

I was able to take a months off after the birth of my daughter.

What I dislike

All field communications is directed to the store staff and never toward the warehouse staff. The warehouse teams are required to read between the lines.

Suggestions for improvement

Better 401k match.$.25 doesn't cut it, in a $ for $ world.

What I like

My favorite memories were the great group of people. They were very patient when I was just starting out and learning everything. I always felt like I had someone who was supportive.

What I dislike

For the pay, sometimes I worked 12 hours at a time and The pay was under $30000 a year without making money from sales. So if you are willing to work a ton call my probably not have weekends off and expect to stay late with a fairly low pay without commission, I guess that would be my only negative

Suggestions for improvement

I would have multiple people working at each location..the work hours could be pretty extreme and there was a lot to handle. I do think women working alone at a big store could be a safety issue as well

Company Culture

Great professional kind people

Challenging Work

Juggled sales, store mgmt, delivery etc

They advertise you can make 40-60K, but only if you're put in a good store which is unlikely as a new hire. Make less

EmployeeWorked at Mattress Firm in Philadelphia, PA at the time of review.

What I like

My immediate managers are great, they work with me on scheduling but sometimes you end up working long shifts days in a row. You may not see very many people, even with the advertising. There is always a sale. ALWAYS. Training is so-so. Don't make nearly as much as I was promised and am working 10 more hours a week than I was hired for. Because at times folks are running for the door if they get a better offer.

What I dislike

They are trying to change the way you sell, making you take a lot of courses that take up a lot of time but don't do much else. It's all about the money, especially after the bankruptcy and closing of 700 stores. It's now "my way or the highway", but if you're selling you're ok, even if you're being dishonest with customers.

Suggestions for improvement

Pay better, lower the hours, give people more control over where they work, stop having people that float from store to store, people will do better and be happier if they have one or two stores only that they work in. Too much driving around for too little pay.

Company Image

it's all about profits

Work-Life Balance

Overall compensation for your work

Inclusive / Diverse

Teamwork

Attitude towards older colleagues

Support from management

sometimes yes, most time not

Job Security

only if I sell enough

Internal Communication

only when you're doing poorly

Freedom to work independently

they try to micro manage

What I like

Anytime you make a sale is a pretty positive experience.

What I dislike

Lack of training initially which forces you to look up information

Suggestions for improvement

Put something in the stores so that employees don't fall asleep on the job.

Company Culture

There isn't really a culture. It seems to be an every man for themselves type situation.

Work-Life Balance

You have time to do whatever you want during work.

Yes

Inclusive / Diverse

No diversity issues.

Environmental Friendliness

No awareness in this position.

Workplace Safety

Only beds.

Teamwork

You only work alone.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Challenging Work

You sit in front of computer all day and hope a single customer walks in the store.

Former FreelancerWorked at Mattress Firm in East Mesa, AZ.

What I like

The company I worked for was great as long as you did your job and kept your nose clean. A willingness to excell played an important role as well.

What I dislike

Our delivery system from state to state was always different and our main computer system was a prototype so glitches were a daily occurrence. Other than that it was pretty great.

Suggestions for improvement

Don't rush into new technology before the company who created it originally, has perfected it. Our balance sheets each quarter were extremely inaccurate and inventory was a mess for many years

Company Culture

They only genuinely cared about each other when they were trying to impress upper management

Company Image

I was proud of the company as a whole but some people thought their ideas and ways were best ways. At least they thought that

Work-Life Balance

Our schedule would beg to differ

Career Development

The company is so big there was always opportunity to grow

Overall compensation for your work

Our commission structure kept be dramatically reduced

Inclusive / Diverse

They were always open to suggestions

Teamwork

They definitely promoted that but egos, old school vs. new school mentality, and jealousy sometimes got in the way with co-worker relationships and cohesiveness

Attitude towards older colleagues

It was the young people who had to deal with most of the problems.

Support from management

Managers were great but our supply chain had numerous flaws

Challenging Work

Sales is always difficult without the proper training and support

Internal Communication

If you sell than things go well

Freedom to work independently

We were rarely supervised
