Company Culture

I love my coworkers and how well we work together

Support from management

For the most part they do. But sometimes they are pressured too much to add things that we feel take away from what we really need to do

Teamwork

They are good at encouraging everyone to work together. But they aren’t very direct with what they want and employees feel we aren’t getting honesty all the time

Freedom to work independently

They do let us do our jobs, but the past year they have been really trying to regulate every little thing and add things that take away from what we really need to do

Internal Communication

There are many times we don’t know what is going on with the hospital. And they decide to follow certain rules when it fits for them

Gender Equality

For a hospital you would think maternity leave would be good. That is a lie. But they are good with providing spaces for pumping and not treating women too differently than men.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I have not noticed any older employee being treated differently

Career Development

Yes they do help you to further your education. Though they might take that away

Overall compensation for your work

We don’t get paid more for getting more certifications. But we do get paid decent. It’s the lower end of the national average but it’s ok

Office / Work Environment

Great spaces to work and they keep renovating to keep it updated.

Work-Life Balance

They are not helpful when you have a life. Very little sick days, which if you have kids you are screwed. They will have to warn you for using too many days when in reality they just don’t give you enough. They also expect you to work yourself to death

Company Image

I am proud of my job and my coworkers. I do love it there. I just wish we were valued more by the employer

Workplace Safety

For dangerous things we are all trained properly. For some new techniques sometimes training isn’t provided to all equally

Challenging Work

On your feet a lot and I do a lot of stretching and pushing.

Inclusive / Diverse

They are very good with not discriminating those who identify with a different gender or are non gender specific. They welcome all diversities. It’s about your ability in the hospital not the way you look

Suggestions for improvement

  • I think every job there should get double pay if you work holidays. Maternity and paternity leave should be full pay for longer. They should stop paying the top people so much so they can hire more employees to be fully staffed instead of over working everyone. Have more sick days per person available. Make the process to open positions for hiring not as long. Treat every employee with the same respect.

What I like about the company

In Mankato it’s a small hospital but big enough that you do almost everything. The great thing is it’s not so specialized so you get to do such a large variety of things. So you learn so much. Coworkers are so great and helpful. You end up knowing a lot of people there but it’s big enough that you don’t know everyone

What I dislike about the company

I wish they valued their employees more. They treat us like we are easily replaceable. Depending what you do there some jobs you don’t get holiday pay and instead the perk is not using your PTO if you work. A lot of times you are short workers and it takes a while to fill the positions because of the ridiculous number of committees that need to approve the position before they can hire.

Support from management

Management does not hold negligent employee's accountable for actions. Good workers are disheartened and tired of the unfair treatment.

Teamwork

Manager speaks "at"these attributes as if to encourage but doesn't know us individually or ask why we don't get along.

Freedom to work independently

There is little accountability

Internal Communication

My manager has never given annual performance reviews. He has been over our department for two and a half years.

Attitude towards older colleagues

N/A

Company Image

Mayo as an entity has a wonderful reputation but my department falls short of what Mayo Clinic deserves

Challenging Work

I am certified and seasoned in my field

Inclusive / Diverse

It seems that its depending on who is close to the manager

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would make peer interviews mandatory. I would make it mandatory for instrument techs to observe surgical cases on a regular rotation.I would have team building activities in the department. Certification would be mandatory. I would create "feedback Friday's" to give employees a voice. I would request manaagers be held accountable for monitoring and personally evaluating the employees in the department.

What I like about the company

Mayo clinic saves lives around the clock. I have the pleasure of assisting physicians by providing the sterile instruments used in surgery. Liver, kidney, heart and lung transplants are performed around the clock. I am honored to be an integral part of the procedures involved. Although the doctor holds the instruments our instruments actually touch the patients. We have as much power to determine the outcome of the surgical case as the physicians. I have been a certified sterile processing tech. for 27 yrs and have been fortunate enough to work for wonderful hospitals. Although the Instrument Processing Dept. leaves a lot to be desired, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in its entirety is a well known and respected hospital. It offers free education on campus to futher your career in the foundation. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville is developing state of the art opportunities for research and development. They also have pet therapy with a host of doggies both large and small, licensed to calm and sooth patient's and employee's. The campus also has a meditation room which provides space to pray or contimplate. Mayo Clinic also has a mission statement that I respect and believe in.

What I dislike about the company

I disapprove of leadership not being required to have licensure or certification in the department that they work for. I believe that meeting those requirements provides extensive knowledge and confidence that translates into a well rounded leader.

Company Culture

Mayo is positively there for the patient, 100%. Which, sometimes as an employee you feel left behind. There are many managers above you, that you feel like you don’t get to make much of an impact on your work area.

Support from management

No upper management doesn’t visit our department ever. They don’t consult you if there is going to be a change they want.

Teamwork

They have some very good core values they strive to achieve. It makes for a good work environment. You do feel part of a team.

Freedom to work independently

I feel they don’t have much trust in their employees, just because of how many managers they have. Everything seems micro-managed

Internal Communication

They communicate well, through email but I feel a lot gets lost online. We may not always have the time to sit at the computer and read their intranet site pages, and may miss some info due to that.

Gender Equality

They do try and be neutral to any kind of biased. There still are more males in higher up positions than females.

Attitude towards older colleagues

They treat everyone equally. They offer no more special treatment if you are older. I think sometimes big corporations in general tend to force some older employees into retirement.

Career Development

There are career advancement opportunities if you have the right background. They do offer training and scholarships for support.

Overall compensation for your work

I feel working for a health care facility, our healthcare insurance could be better. Once you reach a certain pay they will cap you, and you won’t get a raise.

Office / Work Environment

The facility is clean we do have access to to very good equipment.

Environmental Friendliness

They do recycle and try to be environmentally friendly as best as they can.

Work-Life Balance

The providers are loaded down with a lot of work and expectations. We’ve had a whole department leave because of the demand. The high work load trickles down to the nurses and Everyone else.

Company Image

I am proud to work there. I love the work. But I wish the upper management were more open to listening to their employees down on the working floors. We have so much to offer to help make a difference.

Handicapped Accessibility

They must meet regulations for all that. And currently are doing construction to upgrade the patient rooms, to offer more privacy.

Workplace Safety

All staff goes through orientation. I think some stuff may get lost and presumed understood. But they do a good job at sending out learning modules.

Challenging Work

I have found the job for me. I find working with patients very rewarding and the job itself challenging. Everyday is different because of the patients. I like the challenge.

Inclusive / Diverse

They have very strong core values that diversity is part of. They do not discriminate.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would take away quit a bit of the administration. Higher more providers and divide up their work load more. Have upper management visit the departments more. Better benefits for employees. The discounts we get hardly make a difference because the store sales are better.

What I like about the company

I enjoy making a difference in the lives of many patients. There are many intelligent medical professionals that work there and amazing to work along side them.

What I dislike about the company

How much it is micro-managed and the healthcare benefits could be better.
