I love my coworkers and how well we work together
Support from management
For the most part they do. But sometimes they are pressured too much to add things that we feel take away from what we really need to do
They are good at encouraging everyone to work together. But they aren’t very direct with what they want and employees feel we aren’t getting honesty all the time
Freedom to work independently
They do let us do our jobs, but the past year they have been really trying to regulate every little thing and add things that take away from what we really need to do
There are many times we don’t know what is going on with the hospital. And they decide to follow certain rules when it fits for them
For a hospital you would think maternity leave would be good. That is a lie. But they are good with providing spaces for pumping and not treating women too differently than men.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I have not noticed any older employee being treated differently
Yes they do help you to further your education. Though they might take that away
Overall compensation for your work
We don’t get paid more for getting more certifications. But we do get paid decent. It’s the lower end of the national average but it’s ok
Office / Work Environment
Great spaces to work and they keep renovating to keep it updated.
They are not helpful when you have a life. Very little sick days, which if you have kids you are screwed. They will have to warn you for using too many days when in reality they just don’t give you enough. They also expect you to work yourself to death
I am proud of my job and my coworkers. I do love it there. I just wish we were valued more by the employer
For dangerous things we are all trained properly. For some new techniques sometimes training isn’t provided to all equally
On your feet a lot and I do a lot of stretching and pushing.
Inclusive / Diverse
They are very good with not discriminating those who identify with a different gender or are non gender specific. They welcome all diversities. It’s about your ability in the hospital not the way you look
Suggestions for improvement
- I think every job there should get double pay if you work holidays. Maternity and paternity leave should be full pay for longer. They should stop paying the top people so much so they can hire more employees to be fully staffed instead of over working everyone. Have more sick days per person available. Make the process to open positions for hiring not as long. Treat every employee with the same respect.
What I like about the company
In Mankato it’s a small hospital but big enough that you do almost everything. The great thing is it’s not so specialized so you get to do such a large variety of things. So you learn so much. Coworkers are so great and helpful. You end up knowing a lot of people there but it’s big enough that you don’t know everyone
What I dislike about the company
I wish they valued their employees more. They treat us like we are easily replaceable. Depending what you do there some jobs you don’t get holiday pay and instead the perk is not using your PTO if you work. A lot of times you are short workers and it takes a while to fill the positions because of the ridiculous number of committees that need to approve the position before they can hire.
