They try. At the time I left, MDA had owned the facility for only three months. Everyone was feeling their way.
Support from management
Due to numerous management changes before MDA bought the Ypsilanti facility from General Dynamics, I had a manager that I rarely saw.
Overall compensation for your work
Reasonable salaries, and middle of the road benefits. Not great, but adequate.
Office / Work Environment
Typical government contractor. The computers tend to be quite old by the time they are retired, but they worked and did what they were supposed to do. Where necessary there were reasonably powerful Solaris and Linux processors.
When I left, MDA was still too new to us. Their Canadian parent company has a solid worldwide reputation.
I was laid off due to lack of work, but again, the circumstances were unusual. The contract I had worked on stayed with General Dynamics, and they couldn't find anywhere else for me to contribute.
What I like about the company
They are among the world leaders in their area of technology, albeit in the completely separate Canadian parent.
What I dislike about the company
There is too much dependence on US government contracting. When issues like sequester happen the company becomes tighter, I guess. Unfortunately government contracting is why they exist.
