About once per year, employees were taken to an appreciation lunch which was nice. However, I recall once that dessert was not allowed, hmmmm.
Definitely more compliments and encouragement could have been helpful.
Support from management
As the Administration Assistant, I was not involved in decision making.
For the most, I would say that employees worked well together.
Freedom to work independently
The position that I held was one for about three people. I did not have a say in the structuring of my responsibilities.
I did not receive results of successes, profits, through regular meetings.
It appeared that women were being treated fairly.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Overall compensation for your work
Benefits were good.
Salaries (could have been a little better) were paid on time.
However, in 3 1/2 years of employment, there was only one raise was given to emplyees (that didn't make up for lost time). This made it difficult to keep up with the cost of living.
Office / Work Environment
Computers and lighting were good.
The position that I held included preparing reports
and other tasks that required focus and quiet. I needed an area that did not include constant interruption. I was not supplied an area that was condusive to certain needs of the position.
They did have recycle bins. Otherwise, I don't know much about what their environmental, climate protection and fair trade support.
The schedule was 4 days at 10 hours per day, Monday through Thrusday 8 am - 6 pm. Sounds good in theory but by the time ones gets to Friday, exhaustion from four, 10 hour days puts Friday to a rest day. Sometimes it was helpful. Sometimes, simply exhausting. Access to work at home through computer during off days was given. However, I see this as an encroachment on personal time and that one needs to leave work at work as to be refreshed and more productive upon return. This issue was not forced.
Scheduling of vacation days and family issues were handled well.
I did feel stable in the position which was good.
However, I wanted to grow and despite efforts to do so, due to the position that I was in and it having a turnover reputation, I was sure that I would have never been allowed to move forward but to remain in a position that was difficult to maintain someone.
With the work load being overwhelming and not in a condusive area with tasks that did not require one to think and make decisions, it over took any feelings of accomplishment.
Inclusive / Diverse
From what I could see, I believe there were some efforts for diversity. Diverse opinions and ideas did not appear to be supported.
Suggestions for improvement
- 1) More frequent raises to keep up with the cost of living. 2) Provide work environment needs condusive to position responsiblities. 3) Work with employees when they express unhappiness in a position and a desire to move to another that would be more of a match. 4)Encourage all to compliment others when they have a done a good job. It would raise morale and motivate to keep up the good work and continually strive to exceed.
What I like about the company
The business manager was good, understanding and worked with employees regarding life matters.
What I dislike about the company
I did not like that their not so frequent raises did not allow to keep up with the cost of living. It is difficult when everything else is going up in cost with the exception of one's salary.
And appropriate work area needs to be provided to match position responsibilites that would aid in focus and and less interruptions.
I felt ignored when I expressed my desire to grow and move forward into other positions and feel with others being placed in available positions, other roles could have been at least partially created that would have been more of an asset to both parties.
